Welcome to WikiProject Spaceflight! We are a group of Wikipedia editors who work on topics related to the utilisation and exploration of outer space by humans and robotic spacecraft. This WikiProject aims to coordinate the efforts of Wikipedians interested in spaceflight to improve coverage of the topic. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them on our discussion page.

Goals

Our goal is to build the foremost free-content encyclopedia of spaceflight by:

  • Expanding, improving, and maintaining articles within the project's scope.
  • Creating articles related to relevant topics that do not already exist.
  • Assessing the quality of articles and their importance to our project.
  • Providing guidelines and recommendations for editors of spaceflight.
  • Standardising and better organising supporting content.
  • Serving as the central point of discussion for spaceflight issues on Wikipedia.
  • Attracting Wikipedians to the cause, focusing our effort.
Scope

The scope of this project is all topics directly related to spaceflight. Specifically this includes all hardware (i.e. spacecraft), software and wetware (i.e. astronauts, etc.) designed for operation beyond the Kármán line, the suborbital or orbital launch vehicles that place them there, and the ground-based equipment (such as launch pads, control centres and tracking ships) used to support their missions. Individuals, organizations and historical events directly related to spaceflight are also considered to be within the project's scope.

Articles on astronomical objects (such as the Moon, Mars, or asteroids) are not considered within the scope of this project; see WikiProject Solar System and WikiProject Astronomical objects.

How you can help

There are a number of ways you can help, including but not limited to:

  • Checking the Open Tasks lists for articles in need of attention that you may want to improve.
  • Bringing matters that may be of interest to spaceflight editors to our discussion page.
  • Adding the project banner (see below) to the talk pages of articles within our scope.
  • Assess article quality and importance using the project's criteria.
  • Helping maintain the project pages.

Thanks for your contributions!

WikiProject banner

For articles considered to be within the scope of this project, a banner should be placed at the top of the talk page associated with the article.

{{WikiProject Spaceflight}}

To assess an article, using the rating scheme described on the Assessment page, fill in the parameters on the Spaceflight banner on the article's talk page:

{{WikiProject Spaceflight |class= |importance= |astronaut= |TLS= }}

Here is the banner with B-class parameters:

{{WikiProject Spaceflight |class= |importance= |b1= |b2= |b3= |b4= |b5= |b6= }}

See the template's documentation for detailed instructions on its use.

Portal

In addition to the encyclopedia articles which are within the scope of this project, we maintain the Spaceflight portal. Please join us in finding content for this portal that will make it a valuable entry point into the encyclopedia's coverage of spaceflight and space exploration topics.

Join us

Anyone can help out or use the resources here whether a member or not but if you would like to join us, you can indicate participation by adding your name to our active members list. Also, if you like, you could add a userbox to your user page:

Advice
Sub-projects

WikiProject Spaceflight is currently divided into two active sub-projects to organise the work for various specialised areas of interest. New sub-projects should be proposed on the main project discussion page. The proposer should state the planned scope and goals of the sub-project. Inactive sub-projects can be revived if you are interested to join the project. Defunct sub-projects are of historical interest and require discussion to revive. There is also a discussion about making subprojects for particular agencies and companies at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spaceflight#NASA_and_SpaceX_sub-projects.
