Caroline Pennell, also known as Carol Ades, is an American singer and songwriter. She gained recognition as a contestant on the fifth season of The Voice.

Caroline’s paternal grandfather was Hugh Pennell (the son of John Walton Pennell and Caroline Louise Wellendorf). Hugh was born in Vienna, Ohio. John was born in Jefferson, Ohio, and was of mostly English and German, as well as some French, Dutch, Northern Irish, Welsh, and Scottish descent. Caroline was born in Boardman, Ohio, to a German father and to a mother of half English adn half German [including Alsatian] descent.

Caroline’s paternal grandmother was Nancy Linkroum (the daughter of William Henry Linkroum and Mabel Claire Sheffield). Nancy was born in Hackensack, New Jersey. William was born in Hackensack, to a father of mostly Dutch, as well as some English, Scottish, Irish, German, and French, ancestry, and a German mother. Some of his Dutch ancestors were from modern-day Denmark, and he also descended from Valentine Claeszen (b. 1637), who was a German from Transylvania. Caroline’s great-grandmother Mabel was born in Dallas, Texas, to parents of mostly English descent.

Caroline’s maternal grandfather was Richard Lewis Ades (the son of Samuel Siahou D. Ades and Adele O. Keilson). Richard was born in Brooklyn, New York. Samuel was born in Aleppo, Syria, to Sephardi Jewish/Mizrahi Jewish parents, with more distant origins in Italy and Iraq. Adele was born in New York, to Ashkenazi Jewish parents, from Seirijai, Lithuania.
