His family lived in Champaign, Illinois, for a few years during his childhood, before moving to Los Angeles, California, for his acting career.

Dylan’s patrilineal line can be traced back to his great-great-great-grandparents, John Edward Minnette/Minnett, who was born in Ohio, to Irish parents, Martin Minnett and Bridget Kelly, who were from County Galway; and Elizabeth Jane Elliott, who was born in Kentucky, to Kentucky-born parents, James H. Elliott and Mary Ann Taylor.

Dylan’s paternal grandfather is Richard Joseph Minnette II (the son of Richard Joseph Minnette and Ruth Hazel Hartz). Dylan’s great-grandfather Richard played in a band, the Dixieland Playboys, with his brothers and sisters. He was the son of Robert Carroll Minnette and Olivia May Fisher, who was of German and Bohemian Czech descent. Olivia’s uncle, Emmanuel Boleslaus Ledvina, was a prelate of the Roman Catholic Church, and served as bishop of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, Texas, from 1921 to 1949. Dylan’s great-grandmother Ruth was the daughter of Edward P. Hartz, who was of German ancestry; and of Mary Jane Minto, whose paternal grandparents were English, and whose mother was of mostly Swiss-German and German ancestry.

Dylan’s paternal grandmother is Ann Wallace (the daughter of James B. Wallace and Martha Von Faust). James was the son of Ernest Forrest Wallace and Missouri Lelia Page. Martha was the daughter of Mont Clair Faust and Ethel Dement Von Berg/VonBerg. Ethel’s father, who was of Baltic German descent, was related to biologist Jakob Johann von Uexküll.

Dylan’s maternal grandfather was James Harry Maker (the son of James Verran Maker and Thelma Gertrude Coleman). Dylan’s grandfather James was born in Florida. Dylan’s great-grandfather James was the son of George Lucas Maker and Esther Kendall. Thelma was the daughter of Otis William Coleman and Ida Lee Harvey.

Dylan’s maternal grandmother is Carolyn Gwen Taylor (the daughter of Virgil Roy Taylor and Elva Roline Bourn/Bourne). Virgil was the son of Samuel Joseph Taylor and Mary Byrd. Elva was the daughter of James Richard Bourne and Minnie North.
