Joseph Zada is an Australian actor. He is known for his roles on the shows Total Control, Invisible Boys, and We Were Liars. He has also been billed under his birth name Joseph Cumpston.

He is the son of film producer Jessica Brentnall and director, actor, and doctor Jeremy Cumpston, who starred on the show All Saints. His half-brother is actor, producer, and writer Hal Cumpston, whose mother is producer and director Rachel Lane. His aunt is art photographer, painter, curator, writer, and educator Nici Cumpston.

Joseph’s paternal great-great-grandfather, Khan Zada, was an ethnic Pashtun; he was from Karachi, now Pakistan. Pashtuns also live in Afghanistan. Joseph is also said to have Barkindji/Barkandji Aboriginal ancestry on his father’s side. It is not clear if this is accurate.

Joseph’s paternal grandfather was named Trevor Cumpston (the son of Alan Cumpston). Trevor was a radiographer, and also worked in Canada. Alan was head doctor of the New Broken Hill Mines. He was the son of John Howard Lidgett Cumpston, whose paternal grandparents were from England, from Wiltshire and Middlesex, respectively; and of Gladys Maeva Walpole, whose father was from Castlenode, Stokestown, County Roscommon, Ireland.

Joseph’s paternal grandmother was Noelene Joy Zada (the daughter of Khan Frederick Zada, Jr. and Ethel Maude Monaghan). Noelene was born in Broken Hill, New South Wales. Khan was born in Broken Hill, the son of Khan Zada, who was from Karachi; and of Mary Eileen Josephine Smith/Payne, whose paternal grandmother was from Sligo, Galway, Ireland. Joseph’s great-grandmother Ethel was born in Broken Hill, the daughter of William Joseph Monaghan and Jessie Mary/May Warner, whose father was born in Norfolk, England.

Change Pakistani-Afghan to Pashtun. Zada is a Pashtun name and is most common in Khyber-Pakhtunkwa, in Pakistan (https://forebears.io/surnames/zada). Pashtuns are split between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
