Adulthood-only expression of Atg8a^HMS01328 under the control of Scer\GAL4^esg.PU leads to a severe increase in the number of mitotic cells (phospho-H3 staining) in the adult midgut, as compared to controls. (The temporal regulation of expression is dependent on Gal80[ts] and induced by temperature shift to 29[o]C for 5-6 days during adulthood).

The expression of Atg8a^HMS01328 under the control of Scer\GAL4^Cg.PA blocks the starvation-induced accumulation of acidic vesicles (LysoTracker-positive) in the early third instar larval fat body, as compared to controls.

Expression of Atg8a^HMS01328 under the control of Scer\GAL4^phm.PO leads to massive accumulation of lipid droplets in the prothoracic gland cells of third instar larvae.
