Taking back?

Hi there I was just wondering if someone could tell me how to say 'taking back' in German in the sense of profiting from something. E.g. the city is now taking back. I thought of zurücknehmen but i'm not sure if it can be used in this case. Thanks.

Not sure, maybe "auszahlen".
Etwas (something) zahlt sich aus.

But please wait for other responses, I am not sure about my translation.
Thanks for your help. I just thought of another possibility 'der Stadt zieht nutzen daraus'. Would that work?

I misunderstood your question. Yes you can say that.
