Background: Frost Fund began in 2015 as a voluntary animal and conservation outreach project called, Why Should You Care (WSYC). During its eight formative years as WSYC, Brittnei Schaeffler, Frost Fundโ€™s founder, created diverse local and international outreach campaigns, grassroots fundraising events, and acquired strong relationships with many animal organizations.

Equipped with a Masters in the Conservation and Management of Protected Areas + BS Environmental Science and Policy degree, the founderโ€™s goal has always been to support the creation of a more compassionate relationship between humans and animals.

However, in 2023, a life-changing rescue related event initiated the decision to transition from WSYC into Frost Fund; a registered 501C(3). The mission of Frost Fund is quite similar to what it was before, but with an even more sharpened focus and intention to better the lives of animals and the people protecting them.

How Does Frost Fund Help Animals?

๐Ÿ‘ Image

Through Education

Education makes understanding options for responsible pet ownership possible, increases awareness of ongoing animal welfare challenges, and spreads important messages from rescue, veterinary, and other non profit organizations.

Through Rescue Advocacy

Advocating for shelter animals can save lives, bring together people and animals, and help to shed light on the overcrowding crisis in shelters across America. This is the goal of the Red List Rescue advocacy team.

Through Support

Providing support to rescues, veterinary groups, conservation organizations, and local shelters can increase morale, funding, engagement, and ultimately share a helping hand when times are tough.

โ€œI have had the honor of knowing and working with Britt for more years than I can remember. Brittneiโ€™s passion, desire to make a difference, bright spirited nature and attention to detail keeps me coming back to her over and over again. I can, and do, give my highest recommendation to anyone looking to work with Frost Fund in literally any circumstance.โ€

โ€œBrittnei is an amazing person who truly walks the walk. She has raised fund through her own self-made programs to give back to animal welfare. Itโ€™s people like Brittnei who truly keep our work going. We recognize true passion when we see it and couldnโ€™t be more happy Frost Fund chose to help us.โ€

โ€œFrost Fund was so great to work with! Brittnei got the cutest shots of the shelter animals and showed the center in the best light. She is professional, knows what she needs, and gets it done quickly. The shelter can get pretty chaotic so itโ€™s nice to have someone work efficiently like her!โ€

How are donations used?

Funding for rescue work:

Many times, financial assistance is needed to successfully pull animals from shelters. Whether in the form of veterinary services, rescue group assistance, or transportation costs to not so near adopters or fosters. Each rescue mission is unique and may require different financial resources to help place an animal with an appropriate foster or adopter.

For example, one recent mission required thousands of dollars to safely transport rescued animals from California to Colorado and another from California to Arizona. Many times, rescued shelter animals require additional vet support for spay and neutering, blood testing, dental assistance, and in some cases โ€“ emergency services prior to finding their forever home. Our Harley Project also requires funding for rehabilitation of certain rescued animals who have experienced long term stays in shelters.

Funding for education:

One of the goals of Frost Fund is to create professional educational content that can be used and shared by animal groups.

To date, Frost Fund has created over 30 cost friendly professional educational materials for numerous non profits. New pursuits include creating a series of educational videos for effective integration and training of shelter dogs into homes.

Funding for support:

Creating collaborative events with other like-minded non profits is a great way to promote community outreach, increase adoption rates, and provide first-hand educational opportunities.

Additionally, Frost Fund enjoys building and/or donating much needed enrichment items to animal rescue groups such as the California Wildlife Center and more! These items require funding to create and deliver.
