Orang Malayali juga disebut sebagai orang Kerala. Komunitas Malayali di India memiliki sejarah imigrasi ke wilayah tersebut dari berbagai bagian di dunia, serta anak budaya yang unik yang ditemukan pada lingkungan tropis di negara bagian tersebut.^[14]^[15] Menurut sensus India 2011, terdapat sekitar 33 juta orang Malayali di Kerala,^[16] yang meliputi 96.7% dari total populasi di negara bagian tersebut, Kata orang Kerala sering digunakan sebagai sinonim dari Malayali^[17]
