On March 1, 2002, 14 people were killed in Vadodaraβs Best Bakery after an attack by an over 1,000-strong mob during the communal violence in Gujarat.
Harshad Solanki and Mafat Gohil will face trial for charges including murder, attempt to murder, rioting and other sections of the Indian Penal Code for the communal violence in Vadodara in 2002.
As a public prosecutor, R N Pandya had conducted the Best Bakery trial in the 2002 Gujarat riots in which 14 people were burnt alive in the aftermath of the Godhra riots.
A year later,after the accused in the Best Bakery case were acquitted by a local court,the NHRC petitioned the Supreme Court for a retrial in this and four other cases outside Gujarat.
