The 22 currently on trial include inspectors, assistant inspectors, sub-inspectors and constables from Rajasthan, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. They are facing allegations of conspiracy.
Jethmalani and lawyer Gunjan Mangla, while arguing on the discharge of Vanzara, told the court that there is no sufficient evidence to show Prajapati was present in Hyderabad when Sohrabuddin was allegedly abducted.
The witness told the court on Wednesday that the Gujarat CID had met him below a theatre he worked at in Gujarat and took his signature on some papers.
On Monday, two railway officials — a guard and an assistant driver of the train — had also told the court that they had seen a prisoner with the policemen.
In Sohrabuddin case, the witness, who was lodged in Udaipur central jail from 2002, said that Prajapati spoke to him before leaving for a hearing in Ahmedabad on December 25, 2006.
The officer was the 62nd witness to not support the prosecution in the case from among 91 witnesses examined so far. The officer is also the fourth witness from Rajasthan police claiming to have been pressured by the CBI.
