Chris Woakes is one of the few cricketers who have been named the Wisden Cricket of the Year. The England paceman, now a good all-rounder, made his Test debut in 2013 during the Ashes but played only six Tests before being dropped from the England team. In 2016, he was recalled after Ben Stokes was injured. That recall was like a second life for him. He showed his class with both bat and ball especially in the series against Pakistan where he took 26 wickets at an average of 16. He played some handy knocks with the bat. Woakes is new to the Indian Premier League. He has played only one season in the T20 League -- with Kolkata Knight Riders -- and impressed with his bowling. In IPL 2018, he will turn up for Royal Challengers Bangalore as an all-rounder.
Chris Woakes announced his decision to retire from international cricket on Monday and among the many tributes he got was from India head coach Gautam Gambhir, who called him "one of the bravest to ever walk the field" with a picture of him walking out to bat on that day at the Oval.
All-rounder Woakes would have batted left-handed if he had to face up, but even if it didnโt come to that, running between wickets was painful enough.
For years, the 2005 Ashes โ particularly that nerve-shredding second Test where England nearly threw it all away before clinching victory by two runs โ has stood as the gold standard of Test cricket in the 21st century. But 20 years on, India and England, this day, this Test, this series, have risen to meet that benchmark, perhaps even surpassed it
England need 35 to win with 4 wickets in hand, albeit the last of those in a dislocated state after Chris Woakes was spotted wearing whites with a black sling around his arm
Chris Woakes, who has been integral in Englandโs bowling attack, landed awkwardly on his shoulder while chasing after the ball at the boundary line in the 57th over.
Chris Woakes landed awkwardly on his shoulder while chasing after the ball at the boundary line in the 57th over and had to be taken off the field with his left shoulder wrapped in his sweater.
IND vs ENG: Chris Woakes had inked a tattoo in his fatherโs memory on his left tricep. The tattoo shows his father Roger from behind, wearing a flat cap and walking with his hands behind his back, surrounded by his initials and dates.
As England prepare for the 70th edition of Ashes, players of both the teams will be supported by their partners from the stands. Here is a lookout of all the leading ladies - wifes, girlfriends - of the cricketers participating in Ashes 2017, which is expected to be another intense series.
