The Delhi Capitals have been a consistent presence in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception in 2008. Initially known as the Delhi Daredevils, the franchise has often been labeled as perennial underachievers, despite their consistent participation in the league.

The team's early years were marked by promising starts but disappointing finishes. They reached the semi-finals in the first two seasons but failed to capitalize on the momentum. In 2012 and 2019, they qualified for the playoffs but couldn't progress further. A significant turning point came in 2020 when they reached the final for the first time, though they ultimately lost to the Mumbai Indians. The following year, they topped the league stage but were eliminated in the playoffs.

In December 2018, the franchise underwent a rebranding, adopting the name Delhi Capitals. This rebranding seemed to bring a fresh perspective, as the team qualified for the playoffs in 2019 and 2021. However, the last three seasons have been less fruitful, with the team finishing outside the top four in each instance.

As the IPL gears up for the upcoming season, the Delhi Capitals are facing significant changes. They have appointed Hemang Badani as their new head coach, replacing Ricky Ponting. Additionally, they have released their marquee player, Rishabh Pant. The franchise has retained key players like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abhishek Porel. With a significant amount of money in their purse, the Delhi Capitals will be looking to strengthen their squad through the upcoming mega auction.

Despite their past struggles, the Delhi Capitals remain a team with immense potential. With a new coaching staff and a revamped squad, they will be hoping to break the jinx and finally clinch the IPL title.
