Sirmaur, Feb 26 (ANI): Seven people were killed and 26 injured when a bus fell into a 250 feet deep gorge in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Of the seven killed, four people died on the spot while other three succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital. The bus was going from Solan district to Chambi Dhar town in Sirmaur. The injured were rushed to a local government hospital. District Collector Rakesh Kanwar said help was dispatched to the accident spot as soon as they were alerted by the administration. The cause of the accident was not known. However, the district administration said an inquiry would be conducted to ascertain the same
Shimla, Feb 24 (ANI): Revenue and Health Minister of Himachal Pradesh Kaul Singh Thakur said the land allotted to Ramdev by the BJP government has been vested in government’s property and lease has been cancelled. The BJP regime made a 28 acres land lease in favour of Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust at Sadhupul in Solan. The Maharashtra government has also allotted more than 600 acres of land to the Patanajli Yogpeeth.
Udhampur/Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), Feb 22 (ANI): The last rites of Captain Tushar Mahajan, who was martyred while fighting the terrorists at Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir, was performed with full military honours in Udhampur on Monday. Captain Mahajan was injured on Friday when he was leading a team to smoke-out the terrorists holed up inside a building near Srinagar. He succumbed to the injuries at 92 Base Hospital last evening. Meanwhile, last rites of Havaldar Raj Kumar Rana were performed by his daughter in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
Srinagar, Feb 22 (ANI): The nation paid tribute to the sacrifices of 9 Paramilitary Army Captain Tushar Mahajan and Lance Naik Commando Om Prakash, who were martyred during the ongoing encounter in Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, as a wreath laying ceremony was held for the bravehearts in Srinagar on Monday. 26-year-old Captain Tushar Mahajan, who hailed from Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, was leading his team in the ongoing operation in Pampore when he was martyred. 32-year-old late Lance Naik Om Prakash hailed from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, and is survived by his parents, wife and two daughters, aged 7 and 3.
Shimala, Jan 27 (ANI): Jaundice has started assuming epidemic proportions in Himachal Pradesh with over 4,000 cases been reported so far. The civic authorities suspected that mixing of sewage with the potable water is the reason behind the epidemic. In Shimla sewerage water has been mixed with the potable water due to which the jaundice outbreak has taken place and many have been affected. Effluents from a sewerage treatment plant located in the vicinity of the Ashwani Khud drinking water scheme, which caters to nearly one-third of Shimla’s population, led to water contamination. Scores of residents took precautionary measures and thronged hospitals to get their blood samples checked. State Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who reviewed steps taken by his government to tackle the jaundice outbreak, said many officers had been suspended for their negligence. The jaundice that we see today actually started two months ago. After that we have investigated the matter. We have suspended the officers. We are also arresting many of those contractors who were responsible for taking care of and keeping the water plant clean. Singh added a probe was on to ascertain the matter.

Shimla, Jan 09 (ANI): The shrill cold wave induced by fresh snowfall and sporadic rain made a comeback to Himachal Pradesh after a brief respite on Saturday, causing the mercury to dip. People in hill town of Dharamsala stepped out covered in layers of woolens as a shield against the cold, after a night long sporadic rainfall. Men sat around bonfires to keep themselves warm.The rain showers caused the mercury to hover around 6 degrees Celsius. A heavily overcast sky kept the sun away and icy winds made it difficult for people to go about their daily routine. A resident, Ram Prakash, said the sudden fall in temperature took residents by surprise. Himachal Pradesh’s capital city Shimla too reeled under cold wave conditions after the city received mild snowfall and temperatures plummeted to sub-zero level. People struggled to step out of their houses and get to work. A resident, Krishna, said it was particularly cold in the mornings and evenings. Roads covered with sleet disrupted traffic movement in city as they became slippery. Every year as the cold wave tightens its grip, the homeless are the worst hit as they often either sleeps in open or under thin tarpaulin sheets.
