Karun Nair, who was born in Rajasthan, made his mark in the cricket in domestic tournaments for Rajasthan. The right-hand batsman made a mark in his debut Ranji season in 2013-14 as he went on to score 500 runs in 6 matches which including three centuries. With his consistent performances in the domestic circuit, Rajasthan Royals former coach Rahul Dravid decided to rope in the youngster for the franchise in IPL. A couple of years later, Nair went to Delhi Dardevils, and he went on to become the second highest run-getter for DD in 2016 edition of IPL. With his IPL records improving, Nair was selected for the ODI and T20I tour of Zimbabwe in 2016. Later, in the same year, he made his Test debut against England in Vishakhapatnam in November 2016. In his 2nd Test, he went on to score a triple ton, becoming only the second Indian after Virender Sehwag. In 6 Tests, he has scored 374 runs at a strike rate of 62.33.
Reflecting on his snub after recording his 25th First-Class hundred in a chat with reporters, Karun Nair said he hoped for a better stint in his return to the national side.
Karun expressed his disappointment, stating that while he gave his best, the selectors' decision leaves him no option but to return to domestic cricket and prove himself again.
In the end, his failures on flat decks in England got to him, but his contenders can learn from his failure to cope with his triple hundred and success in making a valiant comeback
Robin Uthappa recounted how his expression of disappointment at non-selection in the Indian Test set-up during a Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai in the 2016-17, eventually created a rift with his teammate Karun Nair and triggered his exit from Karnataka.
Nair, who made 205 runs from four Tests at an average of 25 with one fifty, also reflected on his comeback, saying he was disappointed on not convert his half century at the Oval to a bigger score.
