"Been destined for big things since age-group cricket, there are not many eye-catching, stylish players like Rahul when he gets going. Nearing a decade in top-flight cricket, he is yet to fully justify the talent he has, for he has the attributes to be an all-format star. A batsman who stands tall at the crease and has shots all around the park, Rahul’s technique has found admiration from all quarters with current India coach Rahul Dravid rating him highly ever since he was a child prodigy. He is yet to have a series or a tournament where he has dominated from start to finish and for a batsman of his capabilities, it does come as a surprise. Having chosen to be a wicketkeeper in ODIs, like Dravid did in the lead up to the 2003 World Cup, Rahul is one of the more reliable batsmen in the 50-over format, where he lends stability to the middle order. His wicket-keeping skills haven’t been bad as he has shown good reflexes while standing up to the spinners.
One-day memory: (88 not out against New Zealand at Hamilton, 2020)
Still in his early days as a middle-order batsman, this knock came off 64 deliveries. Coming in at No. 5, the wicketkeeper showed he can adapt to batting in the middle overs and even don the finisher’s role if and when needed.
One more thing: Loves his tattoos and PlayStation games. During off days, prefers indulging in some adventure sports, and is a huge fan of Zlatan Ibrahimovic."
