Lok Sabha or the House of People is the Lower House of Parliament. The members of this house are elected by the citizens of India through general elections which takes place every five years. The House has 552 seats according to the Constitution, which is made up by the election of up to 530 members to represent the States, up to 20 members to represent the Union Territories and not more than two members of the Anglo-Indian Community to be nominated by the President. Currently, the 16th Lok Sabha is in session. The operations of Lok Sabha continues for five years unless it is dissolved earlier. The minimum age for a representative in the Lok Sabha is 25 years. Three sessions of Lok Sabha take place in a year; Budget session between January to May, Monsoon session between July to September and Winter session between November to mid-December. The House is chaired by the Speaker.

The Budget Session of Parliament will commence on February 23. The Rail Budget will be presented on February 25 and the Economic survey on February 26. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will present the Union Budget for 2016-17 on February 29.
