Mumbai Indians hit rock-bottom in the IPL 2024 season where a Hardik Pandya return did not help the side return to their prime status.

Honed by the franchise in his early days, Pandya was named captain, replacing Rohit, ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

MI only won two of their first seven games and could not lift their campaign from thereafter as Hardik's return to the Wankhede Stadium amid jeers from the crowd ended on a sluggish note. Rohit is also the leading run-scorer for Mumbai in the IPL, with 5458 runs from 212 appearances.
