Bangladesh left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman will don the Mumbai Indians jersey in IPL 2018 edition. He was sold to MI at Rs 2.2 crore in the auctions. Rahman has earlier played for Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise where he scalped 17 wickets for the side. The left-hander has been a good find for Bangladesh. He first played for Bangladesh in a T20I match against Pakistan in April 2015 and followed it by a debut in ODIs and Tests against India and South Africa in the same year. Since his debut, the 22-year-old has picked up 26 Test wickets while in ODIs and T20Is, he has bagged 51 and 35 wickets respectively. Mustafizur made a mark in the very first game that he played in the ODI format. He picked five wickets against India and followed this five-wicket haul with a six-for in his second apperance. Rahman returned with figures of 6/43 in 10 overs this time.
Rahman was removed from the KKR roster on BCCI instructions, triggering a controversial sequence of events that led to the withdrawal of Bangladesh national team from the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup and selective pullout of Pakistan from the marquee fixture against India.
If we decide that Indian public outrage against Bangladesh determines eligibility, what happens to Bangladeshi Hindu cricketers like Litton Das or Soumya Sarkar?
As JD(U), TDP leaders raise questions, BJP and government insiders say such a decision could have been avoided. “We should differentiate between Pakistan and Bangladesh."
Usually players, who tend to insure their contracts, get 50% of earnings even when they miss entire tournament to injury after reporting to the camp but Mustafizur’s case is unique
The decision, which resulted in Bangladesh refusing to travel to India for next month's T20 World Cup, was taken at the highest level in the board, The Indian Express has learnt.
In the past, it took wars and terror attacks to snap cricket ties. Now, the goal post has shifted. Cricket has gone from being a calming balm to becoming the gunpowder kept ready to fire at short notice.
India already faces a perception problem in its neighbourhood. Its language may be measured but its actions are frequently viewed as heavy-handed when dealing with smaller neighbours
