Assam PWD Workers Pension Case: The court was hearing a petition filed by 13 retired work-charged and muster roll employees of Assam’s public works department who were denied pension after putting in over two decades of service and dismissed their plea.
The newly announced Old Age Pension Scheme by the Delhi Government targets senior citizens with limited financial resources or inadequate family support.
An audit report of Chandigarh social welfare department said, the director had not issued guidelines containing the scheduled period to Sampark Centres to collect the documents from beneficiaries to remove the objections raised.

According to Elderline Delhi, a dedicated national helpline for senior citizens, the capital has so far received 4,235 calls related to the pension from senior citizens or their relatives since it was launched in May 2021
Former union minister and senior advocate Ashwini Kumar, who has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) concerning old age persons, told the bench that number of senior citizens have increased from 10.38 crore as per 2011 census.
The 14 states include Assam, Bihar, Manipur, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, among others. The highest pension of Rs 2,000 per month per person is given by states such as Delhi, Goa, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, as per the report.
The court said the claims of pensioners shall be reimbursed within one month from date of application. The court said that the mere fact that the hospital in which a CGHS beneficiary took treatment does not figure in the government order.
