Parthiv Patel, started his career at a very young age for India. The Gujarat batsman debuted against England in a Test at Trent Bridge when he was only 17 years old. He was the yougest wicketkeeper to debut in Test cricket. In his career, the left-handed batsman went on to play 25 Tests in which he score 934 runs at an average of 31.13. He also played 38 ODIs in which he scored 738 runs at an average of 23.74. The wicketkeeper has also played two T20Is for the country. After the retirement of MS Dhoni from the Test, Wriddhiman Saha was picked up as the regular replacement for India. But Saha picked up an injury during the India-England home series in 2016 and Patel was given a chance to the longest format after a span of 8 years. The return became his second innings, and he was also recalled in 2018 for India after Saha, once again was injured in the away series against South Africa.
"Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul will open. Sai Sudharsan will be at No. 3, Shubman Gill at No. 4, and then you will see Rishabh Pant playing at No. 5," said Patel
Patel also feels that if the duo plans to play Vijay Hazare games in between the South Africa and New Zealand ODIs, it will only help them stay in the groove.
With Gill slated to return for the second Test in Pune after India's eight-wicket defeat in Bengaluru, only one of KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan is likely to play in the XI.
Patel also harked back to Kohli's form in past IPLs where the former India captain played as an opener and scored freely for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
"I had to quarantine myself for seven days in a Bangalore hotel before leaving for the IPL," says Parthiv Patel, who recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
Parthiv Patel, a former Mumbai Indians player, was part of the IPL winning sides in 2015 and 2017. He will now work closely with the coaching staff and scouts' group.
The BCCI and ECB have released the full schedule for the India vs England series, which will start on 5 February and will comprise 4 Tests, 5 T20Is and 4 ODIs.
Jasprit Bumrah on Mondya got his first Test call-up while wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel and all-rounder Hardik Pandya returned to the 17-member Indian squad South Africa series.
Harbhajan Singh exchanged rings with soon-to-be wife Geeta Basra on Tuesday (October 27). The ceremony was held on the day of their sangeet which was attended by cricketers like R.P Singh and Parthiv Patel.
