The Bombay High Court passed the order after noting the "enormous magnitude of the human-created problem of dumping sewage into the Ulhas River in Thane district without proper STPs being constructed by builders".
The inspection was conducted at all major treatment facilities of Rithala, Okhla, Kondli, Pappankalan, Yamuna Vihar, Nilothi, Keshopur and Coronation Pillar, among others.
Once the STP is ready, civic officials said that a distribution channel will be set up, through which treated water will be supplied to residential and commercial units for potable usage.
The notice was issued after three maintenance workers Mohit, 22, Hargovind, 26, and Ankit, 21, died by drowning after falling into a septic tank of the STP at the multinational company NIIT Coforge on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Mohit, a resident of Dankaur; 26-year-old Hari Govind, a resident of Kanpur Dehat; and 21-year-old Ankit, a resident of Mathura.
ActionAid Association, which found that values of several parameters remained unchanged, says that it's impossible if wastewater is processed every day.
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation said residents living in different wards of Ludhiana East and Sahnewal constituency should not panic as the plant will not pump out the sewer waste.
Priyanka Kashyap, DCP (East) said, โWe have registered a case under IPC (Indian Penal Code) section 304 A (causing death by negligence) and section of Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers & Their Rehabilitation Act.โ
