Umesh Yadav only started considering a career as a cricketer at the age of 19, the age at which most promising bowlers start running for a national cap. His first international appearance came in 2010 in an ODI against Zimbabwe. His Test debut came in 2011 against West Indies. He went on to take nine wickets in the series. Yadav became one of India's front line bowlers in 2015 World Cup and has since become an integral part of the squad. He is known for the speed he gets on the ball, crossing 140 kph regularly and his ability to swing it both ways.
The 36-year-old has been given a cold shoulder by the selectors as he was not picked for the remaining three matches of the Test series between India and England.
It would be Umesh's second County stint, with his first coming last season with Middlesex in Division Two, where he grabbed four wickets at an average of 71.50.
In the WTC final, in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, skipper Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid had to fall back on 35-year-old Umesh Yadav as the third frontline seamer; Jaydev Unadkat, with just two Test matches under his belt at 31, was the other option.
Australia would have hoped to wallop some quick runs, post a big target, and declare but they were made to sweat, allowing India the possibility of win and draw.
The frequency of long-term injuries that have occurred to fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Deepak Chahar, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini raises questions about the current method of fitness and training
In the absence of the injured Rishabh Pant, Kishan, who is yet to play Test cricket, can provide the x-factor but Sarandeep feels Bharat walks into the eleven as the frontline wicketkeeper.
The Indian juggernaut continued to roll as the hosts humiliated South Africa by an innings and 137 runs in the second Test to clinch a record 11th consecutive series victory at home in Pune on Sunday.
After winning the second Test against Sri Lanka on Sunday, India captain Virat Kohli met the Great Khali and uploaded two pictures with the former WWE champion. He said in the caption, "It was Great to meet The Great Khali, what a guy!"
