LPG Gas Cylinder Shortage Live News Updates: The Gulf conflict is hitting home for many individuals and businesses in India,  with a reported LPG cylinder shortage leading to long queues and a revitalised ‘illegal’ or black market. The ongoing West Asia conflict has strained global energy supply chains and slowed fuel shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. Addressing the issue, PM Narendra Modi hit out at those “creating panic” and warned them of action.

Opposition takes on govt: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday alleged that the Indian government has “bartered” to the US the right to determine relationships with different oil suppliers. “The pain has just started,” Gandhi warned. “Restaurants are closing, there is widespread panic about LPG, street vendors are affected and as I said, this is only the beginning,” the former Congress president said.

What the govt is doing? Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri said this was an “unprecedented” crisis but there was no shortage of petrol or diesel in the country and the panic on LPG gas was driven by “consumer anxiety”. Puri said India has diversified its oil import routes with dependence on the Hormuz channel sharply down. The share of non-Hormuz crude imports has increased to 70 per cent of the total, Puri told Parliament, underlining the country’s current crude supply position as secure.

India LPG Gas Shortage News Live Updates: Conflict has affected stainless steel manufacturing,' Abhyuday Jindal says

Abhyuday Jindal, MD of Jindal Stainless, said the conflict in West Asia has affected stainless steel manufacturing due to the industry's dependence on propane and natural gas supply.

“Due to the heavy dependence of stainless steel manufacturing on industrial gases such as propane/ LPG and natural gas, several processes across our plants have been adversely impacted. Unlike conventional steel industry, which largely utilises blast furnace and coke oven gases as energy sources, the stainless steel industry follows the scrap-based production route where such gases are not generated internally. Given the constraints in fuel availability, our plants are operating at a rationalised capacity," Jindal said.

"Additionally, disruptions in global shipping routes are resulting in vessel diversions, longer transit times, and cargo delays, which are also placing additional pressure on supply chains and margins," he added.

"We appreciate that the Government is fully seized of the matter and is actively prioritising fuel allocation for critical sectors. Clarity on the allocation percentage for industrial propane/LPG and natural gas, along with assurance of regular supplies, will be important for the stainless steel industry to plan and optimise operations. In the absence of such clarity, we foresee a cascading effect across the industry, the severity of which will depend on how quickly these issues are resolved," he remarked.

India LPG Gas Shortage Live Updates: PM Modi warns black marketers of action

Amid rising violence in West Asia causing panic among Indian consumers over LPG availability, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday criticised those trying to create panic in India.

Modi said they are not only exposing themselves but also hurting the country.

The PM was addressing the NXT Summit.

    A warning

The PM said that some people are trying to black-market certain products by taking advantage of the present situation, and warned that action will be taken against such unscrupulous elements.

"Some people are trying to create panic on LPG. Without making a political point, I will say they are not only exposing themselves before people but hurting the country," Modi said.
