It’s an unbelievable feeling. Obviously, playing in India, leading such a wonderful side, and with the World Cup happening here, going to Ahmedabad to play that final. I think it’s a special feeling for all the boys. I think he knew what he wanted to do as soon as he went in to bat (on Sanju Samson). Even when a wicket fell, he knew the wicket was good, so he kept pressing the pedal. The way he batted was exactly what the team required. It was due after all the hard work he’s been putting in over the last year. It was a special knock today. (on the England run-chase) Oh my God! I just told Harry Brook, “How much more do we need to score against you guys?” But honestly, it was a good wicket. The way they batted, I don’t want to take credit away from them. They were always in the game and always in the chase. But the way Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and the other bowlers pulled the game back was unbelievable. We all know what he’s capable of and what he’s done for India over the years (on Jasprit Bumrah). He did the same thing again today, raised his hand and showed character to pull the game away from them. It was a special bowling performance. I think we need to give some credit to our fielding coach Dilip T as well (on India’s superb catching). The way he’s been working with the boys in practice sessions, making them fun and competitive - the boys have responded really well. Even after their personal skill sessions, they put in extra work for the team, and that’s showing on the field. In this team, everything is settled till number three (on the left-right batting and the promotion of Shivam Dube), so we didn’t want to change anything. But when we saw Rashid bowling from one end, Dube was a perfect match-up. Even if I had scored a 50 or 100 in the last game, if the team needed that change today, it was the right call. Very nervous! If someone had checked my heart rate, it would have easily been 160–175. But that’s part of the game (if he was nervous during the chase). It was a wonderful semi-final, and now we’re very happy to go into the final. (on the crowd) The moment we came in for warm-ups, the stadium was already 75–80% full. That shows how badly they wanted India to do well today. Even though we batted first, they were really happy with the way we played. Hopefully, we gave them a great show going into the final. (Thoughts on the final) There will definitely be pressure and nerves, especially playing in India and going for the title. But the boys and the whole support staff are excited as well.

Feels really great. To be honest, I kind of knew that I got some form going from the last game, so I thought I need to continue. I think it's not easy you find form at the crucial games for your country, so I thought big game, I need to make the most out of how I'm batting. So I gave myself an extra time. I calculated my innings a bit. I prepared really well and I think things came off nicely. Got a bit lucky to start off and then, yeah, I think I just wanted to carry on. I think knowing, playing in Wankhede, we know that no score is stoppable here, so I just wanted to get as much as possible runs as possible. Even 250 looked like chaseable here and England played really well. I think all credit goes to how they batted and we really had a great semifinal. (Batting 1st vs 2nd) As I told before, I think you need to assess the conditions. I think, you know, we have played a lot of cricket here in Wankhede, as I said before, chasing becomes a bit easier here. They won the toss, put us into bat, so we knew after the way we batted, I think the way myself and Ishaan batted, the partnership which we had for after Abhishek got out, I thought that I think 250 should be, I think, possible here. So I think that's what we were talking about in the dressing room as well. So yeah, very happy how the team turned up today and all credit goes to Jasprit Bumrah. I think the world class bowler, once in a generation bowler, I think that's what he delivered today. I think this should go to him actually. So I think if we didn't bowl that way in the death overs, I think I would not be standing here. All credit goes to the bowlers, how they backed themselves in the tough conditions. (On the Wankhede crowd) Oh wow, I think as you have witnessed here, sir, I think it's an unbelievable feeling to play in Wankhede right from childhood. I think the way people support actually both the Indian team and also the England team, I think there were the real supporters of the cricket as well. So I really enjoyed playing here, but I think we wanted to put in a positive result for them, but very happy results actually made them happy today. (Hundreds matter?) I think not at all, sir. I think 100, I think, you know, 100 actually, you can't actually score a hundred. It actually comes in the process of, you actually, you can't actually, it's not a Test game, it's not a ODI game where you can go up and down, up and down. Once you've got the start, you're batting first. There is no other way. You just have to keep going hard, hard, hard. And once you, I think end up on the right side, who knows, I think, which amount of runs I'm getting. So I'm very happy to get whatever I'm getting and very happy to contribute on the winning side for my country.

As per India, this is a good game for them going into the final. Close games are always more precious than the win New Zealand had yesterday. Yes, there were some tactical errors throughout the evening from Surya with his captaincy espically the way he used Chakarvarthy, but despite all that, some brilliant fielding during clutch points has seen them through. And as we mentioned, Chakarvarthy is someone the team needs to look after. Going into the final, it is highly unlikely they will make a change now, more than the skill set which he has got in abundance it does seem like his body language has stopped dropping off. Jacob Bethell has slammed a brilliant ton here from one end as he got the single away, but Sam Curran, who got the strike from the other end, got himself out at mid-wicket. Tilak Varma took a brilliant catch on the boundary near the rope. England needs 30 runs to win, and it is likely Axar Patel will bowl that over. With a left-hander in Shivam Dube is a possibility, and it seems like that is where Surya is going here. It is a massive risk from India. This can go either way but it is a calcualated gamble. The rule is simple no extras and don't conceeded five sixes.

Jasprit Bumrah has come into the attack here and this is the game. England will be aware that they have to deal with him without getting too much damaged if they have to get over the line. Sam Curran is the batter that has come in with two left-handers in the middle, which makes it hard for Surya to turn to Axar Patel, whom he has to get over as well. This is why, through those middle overs, he could have slipped in one over of Shivam Dube. Having said that, Bethell has played a superb knock here. He has matched what Samson did in the first innings.

This partnership is putting India under a bit of pressure right now. Surya has brought in Arshdeep into the attack, and he has picked up the wicket altough the scorecard will show bowler Arshdeep Singh and catcher Shivam Dube. It is Axar's magic in the field that has done the job yet again. Jacks carved the ball through the point region, and it was supposed to go for a boundary, but Axar Patel came in and took the catch as he was going over the boundary. Shivam Dube, who also arrived over there from a bit finer position, completed the rest. Game-changing catch that seems like.

Pritish Raj: 'Catches win you matches' is one of the oldest cricketing cliches. While India haven't exactly been setting the world alight with their catching in the tournament, Axar Patel's stunner to dismiss England captain's Harry Brook off Jasprit Bumrah is easily a contender for the best catch of this World Cup. Bumrah started his spell with a signature slower one, rolling his fingers across the seam, and completely outfoxed Brook, who was early through his shot. The bowler had done his part, producing another magical piece of skill. Bumrah's slower ball has already flummoxed some of the best in the world. But there was still plenty to be done for this to turn into a wicket. It was a skier, and Axar ran back from point, all the while keeping his eyes on the ball. It was in the air for an eternity it seemed, and the moment it looked like falling out of his reach, Axar timed his dive perfectly to pluck the catch after covering a distance of 24 meters. No wonder he stayed down for some time and soaked it in as his teammates embraced him; it was high quality cricket from India all around.

Jos Buttler has got a couple of boundaries away here to start with. He is trying to be proactive, but there is no form to him coming into this game, and that is quite visible given the way he is going in the middle. Those shots are not coming as fluently as they usually do. It is a venue where, if he were to hit form will certainly enjoy it, but the smart thing India has done here is to not use Jasprit Bumrah thus far, who has a brilliant record against Buttler. And Hardik Pandya's spell here has come as a welcome surprise for India; he is bowling pretty well.

Pritish Raj: English skipper Harry Brook took a bold call when he brought in Will Jacks in the 20th over to bowl despite the carnage by the Indian batters throughout the innings. While Jacks conceded 16 runs with Hardik Pandya hitting two sixes, the last over was the only blot on otherwise a fine performance by the all-rounder as he conceded just 26 runs in first three overs with wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. Jacks has been go to man for Brook throughout the tournament with all-rounder delivering whenever needed. Such has been his impact in the ongoing tournament that out of the eight games England have played, he has been named Player of the match in four games. The all-rounder has scored 191 runs batting in a finisher role, taken nine wickets and six catches in the tournament so far. He has repeatedly bailed his team out of trouble, standing up in difficult situations.

Tilak Varma has come into the middle. Since changing his position to the middle-order from being a number three, Tilak has been stunning. He has played a nice cameo against Zimbabwe and also a good hand against West Indies at a crucial juncture. India will be hoping he will replicate a similar innings here. Hardik Pandya at the other end, too, has been quite brutal with his hitting. Both of these players play for the Mumbai Indians and will know this venue pretty well. India looks like they will breach the 250-mark here.

Venkata Krishna B: On a night where England bowlers, including their spinners, got a hammering, two deliveries showed what they could have perhaps done differently. Attacking the line of stumps is often fraught with risk at a ground like the Wankhede Stadium, and when they landed it wide outside the arc of the batsmen, they stood a strong chance. Adil Rashid, after being hit by Ishan Kishan, altered his line a bit, going outside off, which the left-hander skied to long-off. And Samson, who looked unstoppable during his knock, fell the first time he was made to reach for the delivery well outside off by Will Jacks. Angled from around the wicket, Samson tried to go over covers, but like Ishan, ended up hitting it off the toe end of the bat as it settled under the fielder at sweeper cover. The two Indian batters were in sensational form but were undone by deliveries out of their reach... should England have done more of that?

Sanju Samson has fallen here. Will Jacks threw that delivery wider, Samson, in pursuit to keep continuing the acceleration, hit the ball aerially and was caught on the boundary. There was enough time in the game to slow down a bit and look for 100 instead, but the batter kept the run rate up to get as many runs as possible for India. England has got the breakthrough they needed, and now India has to be a bit wary. It is easy to collapse from this point on because the batters, instead of starting their own innings, will look to continue Samson's innings.

Venkata Krishna B: A year back, when Sanju Samson and Jofra Archer faced off, this is how it had panned out: 23 deliveries, 25 runs, three dismissals. The raw pace and the bounce of Archer meant that Samson had repeatedly fallen to short deliveries, which has been a problematic area. On Thursday, Archer wanted to test him again, and off the fourth delivery of the first over, landed a short one. However, instead of cramping, it angled down the leg and Samson pulled him over fine-leg for six. In his second over, Archer tested him again, this time again Samson stood back in the crease and hammered it to the second tier of Sachin Tendulkar stand. Samson was off, so was India.

Tushr Bhaduri: The crescendo of noise that emanated when the ball left Abhishek Sharma's bat was quickly silenced when it fell into Phil Salt's hands at wide long-on, a long way inside the rope. The left-hander, who was touted to be the star of the tournament, has had a torrid time. Will Jacks, England's key player in the competition, gave one a bit more air and Sharma, who had just hit a full toss over mid-off, couldn't get the desired connection. The celebration in the England ranks showed how much they valued his scalp, even if Sharma had been short of runs. Off-spinners have had his number of late, and the dismissal would do little to alter the opinion that it's his Achilles Heel. The team management has repeatedly given him the vote of confidence, predicting that a big knock was around the corner. But that has not materialised, and with Sharma's less-than-exemplary performance in the field, the pressure only intensified.

Goodness! This is an exceptional start for Samson after that dropped chance. We are all aware how good this wicket at Wankhede can be, and Samson, after finding form in the previous game, is playing some exquisite shots here in the middle. Those are the shots the deft touches through the point region, which run away for boundaries, and those shots through mid-wicket region, which have enough strength to go for six, are what make him pretty special. The interesting thing today will be to see how he constructs his innings from here on.

It will be difficult. As soon as Brook comes into bat, I would put Chakravarthy on, whatever the stage of the match. At the moment he's bowling a few too many googlies — it's become a little too predictable. He might just need to add a little more variety rather than bowling more googlies than ever before. But he's a high-class bowler and will be a potent force for India.
