Reading online I see that Apple, in their infinite wisdom, are going to "remove[] audiobooks from the Music app and drop[] it into its iBooks application" when iOS 8.4 is released.

Yes, it's a book therefore I must want it in iBooks, mustn't I? I don't even like iBooks to read in!

*stomps off muttering curses*

As of about an hour ago there is a new branch on our family tree. Healthy baby boy. Weight not known yet.

So there's that

First off, I genuinely don't even know where a lot of you are hanging out any more, which makes me sad.

Second, apparently LJ are now - to all intents and purposes -paying people to come back to them? Newsflash: we wouldn't have left in droves if you'd paid attention when we told you not to change absolutely everything!

Third: if you've been caught by the etree-book bots (bloody nerve!) there's plenty of advice about how to submit a takedown notice floating around out there for you to make use of. I'm kind of hoping the power of fandom can crash the site. Crash it, and burn it.

ETA: This post was not brought to you by the Livejournal Paid Time Initìative (TM) as apparently the every third week prompt post I make to DW100 is enough for TPTB.

Hmmmmmm

I, and apparently another author from the same site, just got feedback for fics we wrote A VERY LONG TIME AGO.

It would appear that people are reading them using the Wayback Machine (or something similar) as the site that hosted them no longer exists. And I think people are doing that because there's a whole heap of mine (pretty much all of them?) archived in AO3.Some of them have kudos on them!.

This is
  • kind of embarrassing because OMG my first fanfic is right there in all it's glory, but without the Note that says "this is my first fanfic".
  • Weird because I feel like she should have asked first (I still have the same email).
  • More weird because she didn't even start with the best authors but seems to be/have been working alphabetically.
  • Late breaking realisation: My first porn is in there! I am now having flashbacks to writing my first porn and getting comments from my betas in an IM window (those were the days). They were pretty good comments - especially the ones from the Southern hemisphere. Oh glory...

So, apparently, I am a sucker for a pretty face a gentle reminder that people actually look forward to our yearly get together.

It's very late in the day for running the community as I'd normally do and to be honest, despite the recent Great News, I've not really got the mental energy to do a good job in the background.

So I'm thinking a comment fic type thing.

I'll be opening up the community with one post for prompts of any kind later on today.

    Happy Birthday Kgal!

Just about managed to get Bella to pose before it started raining!

Also, I can't remember if I shared Dog in a Sidecar with everyone, so have extra dog pictures. Taken in August on the Isle of Wight, we were all waiting to get on the ferry back to the mainland.

So excited to have discovered this. \o/
Milo was a praise hound. And that was good too. But I was really worried it was going to be a while before I found what I could use as a training tool for her.

On final countdown to Bella fetching; currently at T minus 55 minutes.

I've finished Bella proofing. That is to say, I've left a load of stuff that got taken off shelves yesterday so that I could paint a wall* stacked on one of the sofas so that the little madam can't climb on it**.

Did I say Bella is a princess? She's a "Princess". A nervous Princess who is used to being able to take the high ground, quite literally, so she can bark and complain at anything and everything.
She's also used to having the run of my son's MiL's house (complete with sleeping in the same bed as her humans) which is why there's currently a piece of expanding trellis zip tied across the bottom of the stairs and a very LARGE cardboard box across the pinch point between the kitchen and dining room halves of my kitchen-diner.

You are a cruel, cruel woman, I hear you cry. But it's for her own good. Honest.

Just waiting for husband to come back from round the orner then ff to the pet shop to buy some dog food - she's coming with some, but I dont know how much - and some treats/toys for rewarding her with, later on.

*I have NOT redecorated for Bella. I started painting the walls when the piano moved out as the piano corner hadn't seen the light of day in forever, and am now working my way round the room.

** Seriously, this was an actual decision that I had to make this morning: leave the mess and have it annoy not just me but the husband and son as well, or leave it and not have to defend 2 sofas against her.

    New Pup

    • Oct. 10th, 2014 at 10:10 PM
Okay, so she's not a pup - she's four - and she's not exactly new in our lives either BUT we're adopting our daughter-in-law's dog (she was always more hers than my son's) as they aren't allowed pets in their flat. DiL's mother was looking after her, but she's not managing particularly well so now Bella (the dog) is coming to us. We're fetching her on Wednesday.

It's a very fuzzy picture because it's a couple of year's old and was taken on my Blackberry.

    I am a Mother-in-law!!!!

    • Aug. 25th, 2014 at 5:31 PM
My eldest son married his long time - they've been together since he was 17 and she was 18 - girl friend last Saturday.

It was a great day. The bride did a great job of planning it all.

I am still exhausted not just from the celebrations but also all the rushing about that went on in the week running up to it. The rushing around that had to be slotted in around me finishing off the bridesmaid's dresses...

I really enjoyed making the dresses, but I do have to admit to a FAIL of epic proportions whereby I sewed the wrong sized lining into one of the dresses. A fact I only discovered *on the day of the wedding* so - bless her - the youngest 'maid walked up the aisle with her lining almost totally picked to pieces.

And because I want this to be a happy HAPPY *HAPPY* post there'll probably be another one in a couple of days about all the other drama going on in our lives.
