Many years ago I had an account named “Mamduh” all over Wikipedia, and a few years ago I had it changed to “MatthewS.” (dot included) all over Wikipedia too. Today by chance I was taking a look at a photo I uploaded to Wiki in 2008, and noticed it associated with my old user name. Is it possible to please rename user page “Mamduh” to “MatthewS.” (again, dot included) to match my identity elsewhere on Wikipedia?

It was "Mamduh", then "Mamdu", then "MatthewS." The same account was renamed twice. If you'd like to confirm this, if you go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mamduh on the English Wikipedia, it will redirect you to MatthewS., and if you go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mamdu it will also redirect you to MatthewS. So all are one and the same, the only problem now is that on "meta.wikimedia.org" the change is only reflected on one of them (Mamdu). @MatthewS. Pre 2014 account used to be specific to wiki, after that they became global. Since you had your first name change before 2014, it's wasn't global which means that you only got Mamdu on English wiki and rest of your accounts were still Mamduh and after 2014 since you had Mamdu already, that became your global username and some other Mamduh (or probably you) got the global Mamduh account.

Now the only solution I see to your problem is that if Mamduh used to be your account that got converted to global one then you can login it to one of your old password and then we can fix it and if it's not your account then we can't do much here. ‐‐1997kB () 00:05, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

@Mamduh @MatthewS. Looking at your edits on both of the accounts it looks like there's not much we can do here. Merging is technically not possible with Wikipedia software but we do local renaming. Since you have edits on same wikis on both of your account, the local renaming won't achieve nothing. Well, that's what I was looking to do. I wanted to change my name to Henry Porter, after Bob Dylan's "Brownsville Girl" ("The only thing we knew for sure about Henry Porter is that his name wasn't Henry Porter"). That's the kind of inside joke I enjoy, and I'm a Dylan fan. There is a user Henryporter, who made an account in 2013 and no edits. (My current name is Charlie Faust, after the Rube who saved McGraw's Giants, but Porter is better. Can I reclaim his name?
