Reviving this topic due to the recent disagreement over the trivia in the article. I was initially on the fence about whether the similarity to the Hedge Spider is merely a coincidence, since both textures may simply be a recolor of the normal spider texture (which I think is the case for the Jungle Spider linked above). However, the pink hues suggest otherwise as neither the regular spider nor cave spider textures have these features. A better comparison image is the isometric render on the official Twilight Forest wiki: note that the old revision from 2020 almost exactly matches, whereas a newer revision from 2023 changed the leg texture slightly. (As a side note, the Twilight Forest mod developers also seem to have the opinion that it's the exact same texture.)
Since the spider in the Twilight Forest mod was added much earlier than the Dungeons one, I'm inclined to think that this similarity is more significant than a typical case where two vanilla items share a texture similarity, which the trivia guidelines disallow. –Sonicwavetalk19:02, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
I agree here. Given that this is unused, it’s completely possible that a mod texture was simply used, and they neglected to replace it since, well, it’s unused. The textures match up almost completely perfectly, it makes no sense to exclude this info from the wiki. I agree with both of your points. Having the opinions of the Twilight Forest developers should be enough proof that they use the same or almost the same texture. It is a much stronger case comared to something like the Necromancer being similar to the Twilight Lich, also a mob from Twilight Forest. James Haydon (talk) 20:13, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
