Blast resistance multiplied by 5 from code values

Here's an ordered mapping of replacements you can apply to get the `minecraft:block` registry keys. Assumes the wiki names have underscores instead of spaces. Map keys are regexes. --88.22.150.86 18:03, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Linking to Talk:Explosion#Blast resistance multiplied by 5 in case anyone's watching this talk page and not that one, since my post there concerns the values in this module. –Sonicwave talk 19:15, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Blast resistance of smooth materials

[edit source]
Latest comment: 6 August 20202 comments2 people in discussion

My investigations suggest that Smooth Sandstone, Smooth Red Sandstone, and Smooth Quartz, and stairs of same, have an elevated blast resistance compared to normal Sandstone, Red Sandstone and Quartz.

EDIT: now with pictures

This was all done in 1.16.1, Java Edition, Creative mode.

For sandstone, each test unit consists of a 7x7x7 cube of material with the top center block removed and one block of TNT put in its place. All TNT was wired to a single button. The cubes of stairs and walls required an overhanging structure to carry the redstone and a downward-facing piston + block of redstone, I don't think that affects the results. Any remnants of that structure was removed before taking these pictures.

The quartz tests were done slightly later and with only 7x7x4 volumes, but otherwise the same.

On the left surrounded by Blackstone are the controls: normal Cobblestone near left and Cobblestone double slabs furthest left. The rest are surrounded by cobblestone.

  • Front row (l-r): Sandstone, Sandstone Slab (double slabs), Sandstone Stairs, Sandstone Wall
  • Second row: Chiseled Sandstone
  • Third row (l-r): Cut Sandstone, Cut Sandstone Slab (double)
  • Back row (l-r): Smooth Sandstone, Smooth Sandstone Slab (double), Smooth Sandstone Stairs

Same layout as regular sandstone, just with Red variants.

Third picture: Quartz

Quartz
  • Front row (l-r): Block of Quartz, Quartz Slab (double), Quartz Stairs, Quartz Pillar, Quartz Bricks
  • Back row (l-r): Smooth Quartz Block, Smooth Quartz Slab (double), Smooth Quartz Stairs

Chiseled Quartz Block was unfortunately missed.

The results can be categorized into two different patterns of destruction:

  • Nearly all blocks in 3x3x2 region destroyed, with occasional survivors within and one instance of a destroyed slab without.
  • Most blocks in a 5x5x3 region destroyed, and several blocks outside that region destroyed as well.

Each block type which is either Smooth, a slab, or both, as well as the Cobblestone controls, belong to the first category, everything else to the second. While the increased blast resistance of sandstone and quartz slabs over the base material is already documented, this file lists the BR of Smooth Sandstone, Smooth Red Sandstone, and Smooth Quartz as 0.8, the same as normal sandstone. These results suggest that is incorrect, and instead they have a BR close or equal to that of Cobblestone, 6. -- Arkaenum (talk) 22:35, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Can confirm from looking in the code, and there's also a report on the bug tracker about this (MC-53641) – the smooth blocks all have a blast resistance of 6 and a hardness of 2. –Sonicwave talk 07:05, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

All the copper and tuff blocks have their blast resistance values added to this module, since you can see those values on the blocks' pages. - Harristic / Talk 👁 Image

Not yet autoconfirmed so I can't add it myself but the value for the mine traveling block from this year's april fools update is 3,600,000, by the way. Froglegseternal (talk) 19:51, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

So does the mine revisitor. Froglegseternal (talk) 20:18, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
