I think Steve and Alex should be included as they are technically the mascots of Minecraft. This should qualify them. -Yekulten (talk) 19:57, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
What should the criteria be for adding skins from skin packs as characters?
The current criteria for a character seems to be an individual with a proper name or title. The occupations in the The Biome Settlers and the Redstone Specialists skin packs have titles (titles are used to describe someone's position or job.) One could argue that these skins are also individuals. This should include them. However, skins such as "King," "Cat," or "Egyptian" are terms used for something that there are many of. Yet there are multiple skins for Steve and Alex. One could also argue that because the names of the skins are titles, that makes all skins from the skin packs count.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines a character as "a person or an animal in a book, play or film." The Webster Dictionary defines a character as "2 a :one of the persons of a drama or novel." I would change that to story as video games are none of those.
If we went by the dictionary definition, the criteria should include any person, animal, or figure (canonically). However, that could be impractical and would lead to redundancy. -Yekulten (talk)
- I think that the term character should include the multiple skins of Steve and Alex as sub bullet points. Terms used to describe something that there are many of should not be included unless in specific circumstances. My own philosophy with wikis is to lean as close to accuracy as possible.Dour1234 (talk)
- That would include those titles then? Auften3 (talk)
- So the real question is what are there multiple of? I think the occupations should be allowed as they're unique to the skin and are kind of individual. -Yekulten (talk)
- Should the skins from other franchises actually count as Minecraft characters? After all, they are from other franchises. I personally do not think they should count, not only because they take up space, but also because they were added as skins to promote other franchises. Dour1234 (talk)
- That's what I was thinking when adding all of those characters, so I 👁 Image
Agree. I think the mythology characters should still be included as the Minecraft Mini-Series have used them which kind of makes them canon in that world. Also, there was a Hazmat variant of Minecraft Steve in the Stranger Things skin pack. (Not the other Steve.) Yekulten (talk)
- I disagree about the mythology characters since they are already mentioned in the mini series. They are canon there, but not canon as a whole. Dour1234 (talk)
China Edition's other "game mode" characters
[edit source]
China Edition is fairly strange and there are some unique characters in their exclusive game modes (which are more like mash-up packs / official addons that follows a story). Unfortunately, there's not a lot of information about them online with the whole censorship thing. But I found this video that has the basic story line and characters from the Apocalypse game mode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deLrk-Ysy8A.
Should these characters have an entry on the list?
- The Real of Apocalypse
- Chaos
- Dr. Madman
- Kang
- Mermaid Ge
- Ming
- Ming's sister
- Moon the Pale Faced Man
- One Eyed Giant
- The Fallen Mage
- The Prophet
- The Queen of the Sea of the Forgotten
-Yekulten (talk)
- Are you sure that this is not a mod as the video is not officiall and no images of this information is on the China edition Twitter. Dour1234 (talk)
- I believe this is the place he got is information on: China_Edition#cite_note-5. The wiki page on China Edition has the game mode listed. We should probably fact-check it all somehow. But that might be impossible. The twitter seems to not have much in content, but it's website might have something: China_Edition#cite_note-2. -Yekulten (talk)
- Okay, did a little poking around, and it seems that it is considered a mod (albeit made by the devs of Minecraft China.) Yekulten (talk)
I was reminded that the Dragon Slayer character from the Lego sets has an official skin. Should this be listed separately from the minifigure? Should probably go on the skin page anyway. Realshow19 (talk) 03:36, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- There are repeated entries of the same character/skin in different lists, so I suppose it counts. I'll list it under Miscellaneous skins. -Yekulten (talk) 23:31, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
Is it worth dividing the characters from the official skin packs, add-ons and maps into categories with name their skin packs, add-ons and maps? Buzzilaa (talk) 17:46, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Grouping them all together would make a section that’s far larger than needed and a nightmare to read. That said, feel free to reorganize the sections. They were written before Project DLC, I’d recommend correcting them to follow the same format as Template:Navbox skin packs. Realshow19 (talk) 17:59, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks Buzzilaa (talk) 18:08, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
Is Cthulhu a character because he appears in the enchanting table's words (in Java Edition only) ? Can I write now ? (talk) 12:35, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- I wouldn’t say so, that’s more an Easter Egg than any indication he exists. If we count him then we’d also have to count splash texts. Realshow19 (talk) 13:35, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks Can I write now ? (talk) 14:21, 19 March 2025 (UTC)

- They have a separate page. Realshow19 (talk) 15:13, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
