@Violine1101 recently moved this page to Enchantment data. I have undone the move since I think that needs discussion first. We currently have a lot of pages about data pack content which use the "Custom ABC" nameing scheme, such as Custom biome, Custom noise settings and (recently moved) Custom advancement (and quite a few more). All of those are used by the vanilla files too, so I understand the reason this naming scheme is not ideal. - I'd argue that all of them should not be called "custom" but rather something like "Dimension data", "Biome data" or just "Noise settings". They're also used for the definition of vanilla biomes, noise settings, and enchantments, which is included directly in the Minecraft jar file. Calling them "Custom" is completely misleading.
From my point of view, there currently is no consistent naming scheme with articles about Minecraft data, e.g. loot table, noise router, placed feature, etc.
Also to note that worldgen-specific data used to not be included directly in the jar and needed to be generated separately (iirc). This has since changed, so the articles now also apply to vanilla while they didn't before. | violine1101 (talk) 21:17, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- I do think that the current naming scheme is somewhat consistent: If the technical name is not in use for some gameplay feature, when we can just use that, otherwise we prefix it with "Custom". I tend to agree that "Custom" is not a great prefix for the reasons you mentioned. I'm not sure on "Data" either though.
