Bug Tracker

Hello user:BDJP007301,

The reason I put it in that section is because, I think, for the section headings "from before 1.8", "from development versions" etc. to have any meaning to a reader coming to the wiki looking for info on bugs in the game, they have to refer to how the bug has manifested in the game itself. If I understand you correctly, you read them as referring to the bug tracker primarily? I generally take the bug tracker only as a starting point, keeping in mind the bug tracker is most often incomplete in its historical information.

I've done this since this spring, when I got involved in the wiki bug listings (as you are also now doing ).. if you go back you will see lots of 1.8 snapshot bugs listings done this way -- up until 14w31x or so when I lost my computer and I couldn't any longer properly use the launcher to pinpoint which versions featured which bugs. Nobody had mentioned having a problem with this approach since I'd started, and I'd generally been quite clear about where or why I was departing from the bug tracker listing.

Thanks for taking the time to talk, I appreciate that you've been doing a ton more bug work here lately, and I'm definitely interested in your perspective on this.

I agree. The affects version on the bug tracker is a good starting point, especially for auto-drive categorization, but it's often incomplete, as the original reporter often just reports and leaves, and the mods rarely backport the affects versions since it's not that important for them or Mojang. That's where the human element comes into the wiki, to put it in the correct section so it makes more sense for people reading the wiki. As a wiki reader, I want to know what versions it really affects, not just what the bug tracker says. --Kahless61 (talk) 16:37, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
Sort of agreeing with both, and sort of not. Although the bug posted may affect the other versions, the mods obviously can't put in affected versions of the "past" (e.g. 14w31a, 14w30c, etc.) as it becomes automatically archived when a new version is released. Due to this, I usually take the bug reports like how people usually do (if its released before 1.8 --> in the snapshots --> from the previous snapshot --> from the same version; you get the picture). --BDJP007301 (t|c) BDJP007301 18:43, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
It seems like we definitely agree that bugs.mojang.com isn't the most accurate reflection of when bugs are really fixed, and we both see the reasons why -- the bug tracker mods don't have access to old versions, and it's not their priority even if they did -- Right? But could you expand on your last sentence, I'm afraid I'm not following what you mean by "Due to this, I usually take the bug reports like how people usually do". – Sealbudsman (Aaron) 👁 Image

Oh. What I mean by that is how the bug reports usually get sorted out on the wiki. I'll just go ahead and revert my edit. --BDJP007301 (t|c) BDJP007301 03:00, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
