D Flip-Flop?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 20 July 20142 comments2 people in discussion

what is D flip flop? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.222.229.69 (talk) at 03:20, 20 July 2014‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

A D Flip-Flop is a memory circuit which remembers the "data" input when it is triggered by the clock input.
This article is about the blocks used in redstone circuits. For an overview of redstone circuit categories, see redstone circuits. —munin · 👁 Image

This article is way too confusing!

Move proposal

[edit source]
Latest comment: 7 February 20153 comments3 people in discussion

This article was proposed to be moved to List of redstone components over a year ago, but there has been no discussion on that, which is what this can be now.

In my opinion, it would make sense to move the article to "List of redstone components", as it lists of similar topics rather than just a single topic. While currently that would make it the only article under that naming convention, there are a few other pages which likewise would belong as "List of", so that should not be the reason against moving.

One of the reasons I haven't pursued the subject (which I proposed but don't really care about anymore) is that I'm unsure whether this article is still useful. At the time this article was split out from the main redstone circuit articles, the main articles on each redstone component (redstone torch, redstone, etc.) didn't have very good technical discussions of their uses as redstone components, so it was useful to have an article which concentrated on that subject. But I think the main articles are actually pretty good now (with a few exceptions I haven't worked up the enthusiasm to fix yet), so does it make sense to duplicate that info here?
Would it be possible for an admin or someone to look at page views or something to see if this article is still useful? If the page views are low, it might make actually make sense to put this back on the main redstone circuit page (but greatly reduced -- say, one sentence per component) with links to the main articles. —munin · 👁 Image

As with most major wikis, page view counts are disabled; recording them adds a significant amount of overhead. -- Orthotopetalk 02:53, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Should boats be called a redstone component?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 28 November 20225 comments4 people in discussion

This page lists boats as a redstone component, but boats do not interact in any way with redstone. Should they be removed from this page? 73.220.135.34 15:55, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

They're transportation units, not redstone components. 50.40.205.182 15:58, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, just what I am saying. The minecarts do interact with redstone via activator rails, but boats do not (except for pressure plates, but if those counted every entity is a redstone component).73.220.135.34 00:12, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

I was also confused by their presence in this list, they should be removed as to my knowledge they have no interaction with redstone (except in a tertiary manner such as triggering tripwire). 184.100.98.120 14:53, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

I removed it. - AD OffKilter (talk) 00:44, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

Move to "Redstone mechanics/Component"

[edit source]
Latest comment: 17 March 20211 comment1 person in discussion

I've proposed on Talk:Mechanics/Redstone that it should be renamed to "Redstone mechanics", and consequently if we approve that this article should be renamed to Redstone mechanics/Component to be a subpage of the new general page, being now also on singular. Chiseled Bookshelf

[edit source]
Latest comment: 27 May 20242 comments2 people in discussion

Should chiseled bookshelf be listed under the power components sections? You need a comparator to get a redstone signal out of it. If we're including chiseled bookshelf here, we should also include other blocks that produce a signal when read with a comparator such as furnaces, hoppers, chests, and other containers. It might be best to just list chiseled bookshelf under the comparator section. Rampage455 (talk) 16:19, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

Time unit inconsistencies

[edit source]
Latest comment: 19 June 20241 comment1 person in discussion

I've noticed that throughout this article that time units are inconsistent. Some sections give times in game ticks, some in redstone ticks, some in seconds, or some combination of the three. Some sections also use the term "tick" to refer to redstone ticks, which isn't uncommon when discussing redstone, but isn't consistent with other sections that explicitly use the term "redstone tick". I think we should have a standard way of reporting times. This may also be a general issue on the wiki when discussing redstone. Please reply with what time standards you think we should use. Dragon head

If someone wrote about piglin heads, why the isn’t anything about dragons heads (because dragon heads move their mouths when they are powered by redstone. Bob2024 (talk) 15:56, 12 October 2024 (UTC)

Dragon heads have an entry in the Mechanism components section, here. Rampage455 (talk) 21:27, 12 October 2024 (UTC)

Suggested Lightning rod Schematic

Lightning Rod's range of activation
It powers the conductive block it is attached to

When I edited the lightning rod section to mention that it can power any block it is connected to, not just the block beneath it, I was planning on editing the schematic to the one provided to show this feature, but as I am new I don't know what course of action would be best to rotate the right most lightning rod into its correct orientation.

Do I just edit the image and reupload it? Or is there some inbuild feature of schematics that I am missing?

Thanks in advance. Glade (talk) 12:42, 11 September 2025 (UTC)

Incomplete block attachment lists

[edit source]
Latest comment: 11 September 20251 comment1 person in discussion

This article mentions several times that certain blocks, such as buttons, redstone torchs, rails, can only be attached to certain other blocks, usually using the umbrella term opaque blocks, but fails to mention certain transparent blocks like glass or glowstone that can also be used.

I do not know enough about redstone components or opaque and transparent blocks to accurately fix these mistakes.

In the mean time should the inaccuracies be removed to have the article left vague rather than incorrect?

Either not mentioning specific block attachments at all, or saying something along the lines of "can be attached to any/most opaque block[s] and some transparent blocks"? Glade (talk) 13:01, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
