I noticed the "more information needed" note on the peek NBT tag, so I dug around to try and find more information.
Firstly, the function determining the height of the hitbox is non-linear. It happens that the height difference between a peek value of 0 and 16 is almost exactly one pixel, which is likely where the first note about it came from, but is incorrect. If spawn a shulker and place a trapdoor above it, then set its peek value to 32, you'll see it extends above the trapdoor, reaching around 3.8 pixels taller than it is while closed, but according to the original note, it should be only 2 pixels tall at this value.
The easiest way to calculate the correlation precisely without directly looking at the code would be by simply standing on a NoAI shulker and measuring the height for each peek value, putting it in a spreadsheet, and using a regression function to try and determine the formula used. I could say the exact values, but given that I've already checked the code, I believe doing so could potentially be a bad idea (correct me if I'm wrong though). As such, I will leave it to another user to try and reverse-engineer the equation. As for the visual side of things, the model seems to match one to one with the hitbox, with the top lid only seeming to rotate at peek values greater than 30. This too seems to be non-linear, hitting 45 degrees at a peek value of 56, 26 increments after the rotation begins, then rotating another 45 degrees to reach 90 between the values of 63 and 64, around 7.5 "peek values" after it hit 45 initially, showing a very fast acceleration. Again, I could provide the precise formula as used by the game, but I'm not confident on whether or not such a thing is allowed, so I will refrain from doing so unless someone can confirm that that is allowed. --AdiBTW (talk) 18:01, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Please upload an isometric render. :) --200.127.21.210 17:20, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
I've been messing around with the Shulker Bullets a bit, and I've been wondering if there is a way to summon them so that they "home in" on a non-specific player. Normally when you summon them, they just fall, or alternatively, you can summon them with a target, but they will only track that specific target. I don't think there is, but I was wondering if there is a way to summon them in so they attack a random nearby valid target, I mainly want to do this so you can have entities riding them, and then create all sorts of homing things (potions, fireballs, ect.). Another query I had is if there is a way (yet), or a way planned, that you will be able to track how many Shulker Bullets a player has "Killed". Thanks. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 55555bookworm (talk • contribs) at 19:39, 30 July 2015 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
Is there any NBT tag for shulkers that stops them from teleporting? Or another way to stop them from teleporting? I want to use them as a defensive mob but do not want them to move. When I opened the f3 menu, and looked at hit boxes, I noticed that the Shulker shell and actual entity are not one and the same. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? EthanLac (talk) 9:35, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
So, in the shulker wiki, it says the Shulkers won’t despawn. Does that mean it will attack you or will it just stay in its shell, occasionally peaking its head out? TBFTE123 (talk) 21:05, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
Can colored shulkers be able to attack the player? xTeodor12 10:37, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. xTeodor12 12:30, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
The current page says "Shulkers spawned by eggs or as part of End cities have value 16." As far as I am aware, shulkers spawned by unedited spawn eggs have the value of 0 as well as from unedited shulker spawners. Oliver408i (talk) 21:55, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
I've noticed that shulkers also do just turn, for example when they get boxed in except for at least one side but now can't open up anymore, they don't teleport (no teleport sound), but instead turn so that they can open up into the remaining free direction.
Only when there is no more free side to open up to (or when the block they now rest on is removed), they do teleport immediately. --DscheJOuh (talk) 22:52, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
… don't know how important that may be, but I did some testing:
Since version 1.21.2 (snapshot 24w33a to be exact) shulkers become *fully* invisible when given the invisibility effect, but the wiki article states that it's head should still be visible. That means the trivia section has outdated information

I went into my creative world, summoned a shulker, switched to survival and he isn't attacking me and I have no effects 51.158.253.177 07:28, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
Several IPs have been claiming that shulkers are neutral and edit warring with anyone reverting their edits. This is both tedious and infuriating since several IPs have been blocked leading to some others creating the same false information. Now I'm tired of reverting their edits. Can this page be semi-protected so only registered users edit the page? 👁 Image
