also terrain.png was in the first version of minecraft --173.180.201.172 23:28, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
The xbox 360 has mipmapping for the terrain.png, starting from build 0033 (but likely from build 0016 too)
Legacy PS4 Edition moved the original textures to a free built in Texture Pack DLC, similar to how the Programmer's Pack in Java Edition is. As such, PS4 Edition absolutely has a terrain.png atlas for that update with the new textures. I unfortunately don't have the texture myself (as I don't have a copy of PS4 Edition nor it's files), but as a developer on PCK Studio, I have a lot of knowledge of the game's history and formats. It wouldn't really make sense for 4J to abandon the format for one update on a dying version of the game.
TLDR; PS4's old textures are in a .PCK archive DLC, while all the new textures replaced the default textures. Meaning there should absolutely be a Terrain.png file. --MNLDev (talk) 20:02, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
I can confirm that prior to Beta 1.8 grass blocks had their side texture on all sides when they were in the inventory or dropped on the ground, and I know this because occasionally I like to cheat in grass blocks into my inventory in Beta 1.7.3, and in which their item models haven't been added yet, and therefore they fall back to their side texture on all sides, resulting in a cursed Alpha render, and this happens on all versions before Beta 1.8 and after Classic 0.30, I can officially confirm it
TLDR; Beta 1.8 is the first version to have the top texture including the the grass block item form --Oneplusoneistwo (talk) 14:04, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
