Hi, I'm Nixinova, an administrator, bureaucrat, and active editor on this wiki.

I started playing the Minecraft (Java Edition) online demo in November 2012, not long after 1.4.2 came out. I bought a full Minecraft account on 8 February 2013, during 1.4.7. When I play Minecraft, I nearly always play on Java Edition; in particular, I typically either play vanilla Survival (in 26.2), play minigames on Hypixel (in modded 1.8.9), or experiment in the latest snapshot (26.3 Snapshot 1).

I started playing Pocket Edition on my iPad 2 in December 2012, during v0.5.0 alpha, and played Pocket Edition a lot over the next few years. After not playing this edition for a while, I got back into it for a bit starting from Bedrock Edition beta 1.8.0.8 in October 2018, but only to try out new features whenever Bedrock got them before Java did.

I received a PS4 in December 2014, alongside Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition, where I would play the Tutorial worlds as well as playing a lot of LCE minigames. I upgraded my PS4 Edition to Bedrock Edition on 16 December 2019.

I first played Minecraft Earth in October 2019 during 0.5.0 after signing up for the beta in May. I played it only occasionally, and my device (Nexus 5X) was later classified as unsupported so I could no longer play.

I purchased Minecraft Dungeons on release day, 26 May 2020, though have not played it since release.

I make updates on the new content added in snapshots in the form of short form content, posted onto YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

When I play multiplayer (in 1.8.9), I use various client-side HUD and optimisation mods to enhance my playing experience. The main two mods I use are:

• Optifine: Increases FPS and offers more video options.
• 5zig: Displays my equipped and held items on-screen, as well as having a customisable mini-F3 screen.

I also have a couple of mods to improve my multiplayer experience, specifically on Hypixel.

Minecraft's default textures are a bit too low-quality for my taste, so I use a custom mash-up resource pack with mostly 32× resolution textures, based on Faithful with a collection of other textures, for both 1.8.9 and 1.2.x. My Mash-On Pack is currently on version 4.0, and is an extension (add-on) pack to Faithful. Versions 3.x and below are standalone resource packs.

On the Minecraft Wiki, I usually update and further document Java Edition versions (especially historical versions, pre-1.0.0) and snapshots as well as browsing Special:RecentChanges and patrolling edits. As an administrator, I update protected templates and perform maintenance, particularly admin tasks. I have made 52,061 edits to over 16,000 pages on this wiki.

I used to contribute to the wiki under the name HeroBrineNZK (an account I created in November 2013), where I made a hundred-odd edits over the next two years. I created my current account in March 2016, but did not begin to edit actively until the end of that year. I became an administrator on this wiki on 8 May 2019 after a community portal discussion, and a bureaucrat on 24 September 2020 likewise.

I have a bot account called NovaBot which I use to make repetitive edits such as updating links and removing deprecated template parameters.

In March 2023 I retired my administrator and bureaucrat roles as I was inactive over the previous year (caused by me becoming effectively unable to edit due to Fandom's broken mobile UI), however I regained my permissions in September 2023 upon the move to the new Minecraft Wiki when it moved out from Fandom.

Keep information centralised

It's easier to edit one template than editing 100 pages. Most of the other philosophies derive from this one. Templatespace should be organised such that derivative edits can occur on centralised, reused templates instead of having to make fragmented patchwork edits across several upstream templates.

Be data driven wherever possible

Infoboxes should always use the minimum strings required as data, which can then be processed into other templates, categorisation, better user display, etc. For instance, "Breaking tool" should always be set to a basic constant, such as |tool=wooden pickaxe, instead of complicated wikitext like |tool=[[File:Wooden Pickaxe.png|16px]] [[Wooden Pickaxe]].

Categories should only rarely be manually added

You will almost always be adding some form of categorical template to a page – infoboxes, navboxes. Place categories in there. This means that they can be updated instantly, and have further transformations done to them, such as more complicated categories like "{edition} {type}s released in {year}". Manual categories should usually be reserved for the canonical pages in a category (with usage like [[Category:Blocks| ]] on Block), or nicher non-fundamental attributes like "Category:Minecon attendees" (for instance).

Consistency is key

Readers over the years (decades) come to get used navigating to certain parts of the page to find specific information. Scanning a page for the fact you need becomes a lot easier when you are able to learn whereabouts it would generally be as soon as you arrive on the page. If you go to the History section on MCW and see paragraphs instead of a table, you may be genuinely startled. Care needs to be taken whenever readers' workflows are to be changed.

History matters

It is crucially important all historical information is documented about a topic. A game as big as Minecraft regularly has entire half-hour videos made on some obscure factoid from 2011. You never know what might be useful. §History being big is a good problem to have.
