The following types of protection are available to administrators, CATS, GIM, and staff for securing different actions on pages:
The following levels of protection are available to administrators, CATS, GIM and staff for applying protection to various actions on pages:
User pages (including subpages, but excluding talk pages) are automatically protected from creation or editing by accounts with less than 10 edits and temporary accounts. An exception to this includes a registered account with less than 10 edits attempting to create or edit their own user page. Unregistered editors and accounts with less than 10 edits are also unable to create or edit user pages that do not belong to a currently registered account. This protection is enforced by an abuse filter.
Interface pages in the MediaWiki namespace are automatically protected from creation or editing by users without editinterface rights, i.e. only administrators and GIM can create or edit these pages.
Any of the protections mentioned above can be requested at the admin noticeboard. Proposed changes to a protected page should be discussed on the project page. If the proposed changes are uncontroversial or reach a consensus, a user with editing access to the page can implement them.
A log of protections and unprotections is available at Special:Log/protect.
