So... I guess you spawn where the torch is? I guess it's faintly useful to have a couple of squares of farmland in your shelter -- less useful if you're using that bed much, but you can at least get a bit of wheat and seeds (or carrots) for gathering animals, or a couple of potatoes for yourself. More importantly, this design leaves you kind of stuck if there's a creeper around when you want to come out, especially if you don't have glass handy. And it does need a few things I'm not likely to be carrying in the field.... --Mental Mouse 21:33, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

I slept in the bed and spawned in the roof above the head of the bed.

This happens when there is no room to spawn. Maxxxx Dirt Eater Alt (talk) 04:33, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

Tried it on a new save, killed myself, and get the message "Your bed was missing or ob constructed", use at own risk!--128.65.169.94 18:04, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Spotted a bug in the directions.

The step 3 image (which predates my expanded description) has wall blocks placed above the head of the bed. Those blocks are broken in step 6, and not used afterwards. Why not just not place them in the first place? --Mental Mouse 13:54, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Also, the bare minimums are wrong. I get the following plank counts:

  • 16 for 2 chests
  • 3 for the bed
  • 6 for 12 slabs
  • 6 for a door
  • 4 for a crafting table
  • 2 for 4 sticks
  • 2 for a hoe (and 2 of the sticks)

Total: 39 planks, which is 10 logs plus 1 spare plank. --Mental Mouse 14:14, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Actually tried it, the anon is right...

The bed is not an acceptable spawn destination, it gives "your home bed is missing or obstructed" and reses your spawn point to the default. I'm marking it accordingly. --Mental Mouse 19:42, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Revive this page?

The designs on the page can work if the corners are left empty. but since so many features are added to the game, I think this article should be revived with new designs utilizing many utility blocks.Fadyblok240 (talk) 20:08, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

I did it. LemonyBubbles37 (talk) 09:41, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Update: I also moved the tutorial link on the main Tutorial page from the "Outdated tutorials" section to "Newcomers" under "Shelters". LemonyBubbles37 (talk) 08:32, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Remove outdated sections

All sections except "Staircase-style" are outdated. Perhaps we can remove it? LemonyBubbles37 (talk) 09:40, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Update: Only "Micro" and "Mini" Shelters are outdated. So can we remove those? LemonyBubbles37 (talk) 08:14, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
