FYI, I just did a test going down a minecart elevator (PC 1.8.6, tested in both creative and survival, carts built every 4 blocks per survival rules). Got in the top minecart, pressed Left-shift, and fell gently through the minecarts to the bottom (roughly 20 blocks). Not even an "Oof." That is expected assuming you used ladders to build it (as opposed to trapdoors). Ladders break fall damage. So the tutorial is incorrect that going down does not work, though it is a lot slower going down then a simply water drop. –KnightMiner ^t/_c 04:27, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

Since elevators have multiple layers, making a diagram is very difficult. There are plenty of other tutorials that use videos. The Blobs^{👁 Image}
