How does this work?

So I haven't used a wiki in years. This probably isn't the right place, but heyho. Setup the top one, tried with both wooden and stone plates - the wiring is such that if both plates are pressed down, then the cart track should change. But the cart doesn't press either plate [stone] or one of the plates [wood]. What am I doing wrong? It's exactly as in the first diagram :o Ossidi 15:08, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

I also have tested "Solution A" with both wood and stone plates and it does not work (v:1.1_02) --DeathRx 01:58, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

I haven't been playing with minecarts for a while, but someone was telling me that powered rails got buffed in 1.8. It'd be nice to see some notes on the new behavior. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 12:21, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

How to synchronize minecart movement and powered rail placement?

The wiki says:

An optimal use requires the synchronization of minecart movement and powered rail placement; moving a powered rail a single block forward or back along a track can make a significant difference. This is because the momentum of a minecart is increased per tick (=1/20 of a second) the cart spends on a powered rail (by 0.9 m/s for occupied carts). When a cart travels at the maximum 8 m/s on a straight track, it alternately spends either 2 or 3 ticks on each block. For an optimal placement, the powered rail must be put where the cart spends 3 ticks, otherwise one third of the boost is wasted.

However: How do I do that? How do I detect, whether my powered rail is a 2 tick or 3 tick block (assuming a minecart at max speed (8 m/s) at the start)? -- 188.106.217.30 11:42, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Small Note On Diagonal Cart Speed

On a diagonal track they move at 11.312 m/s. This reason is simply that the speed along the N-S and E-W directions remain constant. The diagonal distance is 1.414 (square root of 2) longer. In order for the cart to maintain a constant speed along the compass axis, the diagonal speed needs to be 1.414 times faster, or 8*1.414 = 11.312. I did some testing on whether walls slow minecarts in vanilla 1.10. I found no slowdown on straight stretches. For curves only the blocks marked in orange in the schematic cause slowdown, the white blocks don't affect minecart speed. Further, only the blocks at track level matter, although blocks above may cause the passenger to take suffocation damage. Anomie x (talk) 19:59, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

I think it's strange to use SI units for length in a world that is measured in blocks. Why use meters when we can use blocks? For example, velocity in Minecraft can be expressed accurately in units of blocks per seconds (b/s). --Derrekito (talk) 01:59, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Do minecarts still snap to the track when falling?

In the tutorial section on detecting players, the tutorial said that minecarts which fall 2 or more blocks will snap to the track. Do they still do this or do they sit on top of each other?

Splitting proposal

I propose that sections Tutorials/Minecarts#Aboslute Basics, Tutorials/Minecarts#Best practices for laying tracks, and Tutorials/Minecarts#Powered rails be split into a separate page called Minecart/Mechanics. The content of the current page seems off-topic and these sections are large enough to make their own page. Fadyblok240 (talk) 21:11, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

I agree; the new article can be seen as the "theoretical background" for this Tutorials/Minecarts article. I also agree with the merger proposal, as the articles discuss about the same thing, just different levels of complexity. Rtfrc65 (talk) 06:54, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
