Waxing is a gameplay mechanic that allows the player to lock the current state of copper blocks and signs.

Behavior

[edit | edit source]

Copper blocks prone to oxidation as well as signs and hanging signs can be waxed by using honeycomb on them. A particle is emitted when a block is waxed.

Copper

[edit | edit source]
See also: Oxidation

Waxed copper can have the wax scraped off by using any axe on it. Waxed copper will not further oxidize and will not deoxidize when struck by lightning. Copper can also be waxed by crafting, combining honeycomb with a non-waxed copper block.

Wax cannot be scraped when the player is also holding a shield.[1] When wax is scraped off of copper, it has a unique particle.‌[Java Edition only]

The following blocks and entity made out of copper can be waxed.

Signs

[edit | edit source]

Unlike copper blocks, waxed signs and hanging signs cannot be unwaxed by using an axe. Waxed signs cannot be edited or have dyes, ink sacs, or glow ink sacs used on them. The only way for a sign to be unwaxed is by breaking and re-placing it.
