During the 21st century, humanity attempted to colonize Mars by sending two species which could endure the harsh environment of the planet to terraform itβalgae and cockroaches. However, they did not anticipate the species' remarkable ability to adapt. Now in the 26th century, a lethal disease known as the Alien Engine Virus has arrived on Earth, and the cure is suspected to be found only on Mars. The problem is, Mars in the present is overrun by creatures known as "Terraformars," incredibly powerful and intelligent humanoid cockroaches that mutated from those originally sent to the planet.
The Annex I team, consisting of a hundred men and women genetically enhanced with characteristics of powerful organisms from earth, has been sent to Mars on a mission to find the cause of the Alien Engine Virus and to help cure humanityβsignalling the start of the crew's fight for survival.

Honestly, this is one of those anime that really surprised me with how much I ended up liking it.
Story-wise, you could call it basic, but itβs a kind of random basic β like, imagine people fighting cockroaches on Mars. That alone makes it hard to take the anime seriously, especially since it doesnβt take itself seriously either, which is why you end up really enjoying it.
As for the characters, they only really fleshed out a few of them (if you can even call it depth), and the rest are basically just tools to move the plot forward.
Now for the art and animation β and here
...
I have to give the studio credit. They managed to hide their lack of smooth animation by playing with editing tricks: fast cuts, quick zoom-ins and zoom-outs, and even some visual noise effects here and there. All of this actually works well to cover up the shortcomings.
In conclusion, this anime is below average if youβre the type to scrutinize every detail. But the show itself doesnβt take itself seriously, so you shouldnβt either β just remember, at the end of the day, itβs a story about people fighting cockroaches on Mars.

Well, this has been on my list for a very long time. I have also not watched any anime consistently for about a year now and I AM BACK BABY! So, I wanted to start with something that been lingering in my ever expanding list for a while. Enter, Terra Formars.
I'll start with probably the worst part about it, the music. It's bland. Very bland. Ideally in any form of story telling medium with music, it must be used to service and expand the experience of the visuals. Here in Terra Formars, it's just there, like a crap conservatory, it's there, but, makes your house
...
look a little rubbish and doesnt really serve it's purpose, it's cold, it's lifeless and really basic. This show really would have benefitted for someone really thinking about the music, because story wise, it needs it, and speaking of....
The story, it's safely average. Prob slightly above at a 6/10. The telling of this story is told in two parts. You have the action and main story part happening that is purposely written with gaps. The second part is told via a conversation between two old friends that fills in the gaps. I'm always torn with this type of writing. I can never work out if it's a good thing or a lazy thing. Ultimately, I can't say too much beyond it's very average. The plot has essentially happened by the end of episode two and it then seems to just run out the rest of the show with fighting. Don't get me wrong though, I wasn't expecting Steins:Gate. So I'm not unhappy with it. It does what it intendeds to I believe.
Finally the animation. It's definitely the best part but again sadly, it does nothing above a 6/10. It's that generic animation you see in so many things from late 2000 to mid 2010s. It's a lot of greys, brown, and whites and the character designs you will feel have seen in multiple animes. I don't really want to say too much more about the character designs as itay spoil some of the plot so I'll end my details here.
In summary, it's a 6/10. It's not offensive to look at, the plot is fine and honestly I believe it does what it needs to. If you are into any form of action anime with a decent amount of gore in it, I would watch it. If you want another Demon Slayer or Attack on Titan however, you won't be finding it here.

The plot shows promise, drawing one in with its intrigue, but unfortunately, many elements fall flat. The only driving force seems to be the question of "how did this happen?" There is definitely some dark politics at play behind the scenes, and the concept of futuristic gene modifications adds an intriguing layer.
However, the fight animations lack fluidity, appearing rather stiff, and character development is almost non-existent. This makes it hard to form attachments or feel the impact of their demise.
Overall, it's decent, but it lacks that spark of greatness. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it to others. A waste of time, in my opinion.
