Raw evil, that's what the main characters in both of these manga represent. Not the stereotypical laughable shounen villain, but a bonafide albeit sometimes too realistic psychopath set in modern society.

They both have similar concepts.

Simple animation (at first glance) that uses over exaggeration as a main key for the comedy and the setting is in a school.

In both anime the main characters are forced into a life or death game that questions morality, society, etc. Both are also somewhat gory (Gantz being more). So if you love psychological thrillers, check it out!

While both series are almost as different as night and day with one focusing on slice of life and the other focusing on a shounen-like manga they do have similar aspects such as: Both series focus on character development. Both series show how evil the world is.

Gantz without all the blood and gore and add in a couple supernatural powers and what do you get? Psyren. Both manga have survival games where the main character is fighting against something beyond his comprehension.

Both have a school setting, suits that gives the wearer power, and similar antagonists. The only real difference between Kill la Kill and Kakugo no Susume is the violence. Kakugo no Susume has tons of blood/gore all over the place and is definitely not for the feint of heart.

Both are very violent with lots of blood and gore. Both protagonists can be considered evil. Both have unique stories about survival.

Both are virtual reality types of anime. In .hack, it focuses on character development and the plot, unlike SAO which fails miserably in my opinion.

Both anime cover serious material and though some watchers may be thoroughly disgusted some people (like me) will laugh a lot watching. Also in BNP it's yaoi so just pretend it's futa man and you'll get through it without being too mentally scarred.

Both have a fantasy setting with rape by demons.

Both are about growing up and has a lot of dark moments, though there is a bit of comedy mixed in there.

These two pieces are mature works and share a constant dark mood throughout, and the art of both reflects that, being highly detailed and gritty. Both are full of violence, sex, rape, and two protagonists who share the will to survive, fighting something beyond themselves.

Both are psychological manga where an outside force invades the main character.

Both are very dark and have blood/gore and shows the mental change of a person due to outside forces.

Both are emotional rollercoasters written by the same mangaka.

Both are hilarious titles that have misleading characters.

Both are very dark and incites emotional responses from the viewers.

Both are set in a different world with a survival aspect.

Both stories are more focused on comedy with an underlying issue of darkness. Densetsu has much more comedy though.

Both are very dark and show the mental change of one person. They almost have the same amount of chapters.

Both have the main character traveling across lands with unique short stories that are highly philosophical.

Same mangaka artist, Ciguatera isn't nearly as dark as Himizu though. Himizu is more dark with a bit of comedy while Ciguatera is almost all comedy with a bit of dark in it.

Both series are not only dark, but they also highlight the mental breakdown of its protagonists while having a bit of comedy here and there to lighten the mood.
