Single player, Single-player, or Singleplayer?[edit source]
Latest comment: 19 January6 comments3 people in discussion
Single player doesn't feel like the right name for the mode to me, for entries in the infobox as well as the category name. Should we change it to "Single-player" or "Singleplayer", or just keep it as is? There was a discussion on reddit about this recently. -- Prod (talk) 19:06, 15 January 2026 (UTC)[]
- Hyphen or space feel more or less equally fine to me.
- Hyphen is probably most correct, but imo not so much so that it's worth a crazy reorg if it's going to be a headache. Driftin Soul (talk) 21:23, 15 January 2026 (UTC)[]
- This is just something that'd be done "over time". My bot would make the updates whenever any other changes were taking place on a page. For me the most compelling argument is that "A single-player game is played by a single player". Steam calls it "singleplayer", which matches with Multiplayer but that feels uncomfortable to me. -- Prod (talk) 18:59, 16 January 2026 (UTC)[]
- I don't really like one word either. I get that it's by analogy with "multiplayer", but 'multi' isn't a word by itself, it's a prefix. If there's no logistical issue with carrying out the change then I think shifting to hyphenated seems fine. Driftin Soul (talk) 19:10, 16 January 2026 (UTC)[]
- Hyphenating the word makes it a lot clearer in my opinion, as in referring to games that can only be played with one player. – Chazmatron, signing off! (TALK) 20:52, 16 January, 2026 (GMT)
- I am also in favor of hyphenating it. Procyon 03:15, 18 January 2026 (UTC)[]
Thanks all. I've updated my bot to use Single-player and updated all the redirects to point to the new category. -- Prod (talk) 03:26, 19 January 2026 (UTC)[]
I made SVG images of the PlayStation controller buttons. Wanderer (talk) 00:33, 17 January 2026 (UTC)[]
- Thanks! I updated {{psx}} to use svg. -- Prod (talk) 01:04, 17 January 2026 (UTC)[]

This topic has been brought up in the past: 2015 and 2023. Using Switch as an example, I think we should have a Nintendo Classics category. Nintendo Switch Online (+Expansion Pack)/eShop are just distribution methods/storefronts and not relevant for us to track. But these games are played via the "Nintendo Classics" feature of the system. It would be treated similar to the Super Game Boy, where it's just added as a category to the page, and maybe mentioned in the text, but not linked from the infobox.
Right now, Kirby's Adventure is listed as a Switch game since it's available to play on that system. However, it's not possible to tell if it has a physical or an emulated release. In the future, when the storefronts are gone, it's impossible to tell if you can still get the game (physical) or not (emulated). Having the categories will at least give a hint.
The following categories would be created:
I'm not totally sure how they work, but maybe these two as well?

- Dedicated categories are fine. But this touches on the issue of if games should be categorized as being released on the console those services are for. I say that they should not, it is just clutter. Put the entire dedicated category in the console category if you must, but not individual emulated games. Henke37 (talk) 18:39, 4 February 2026 (UTC)[]
- Virtual Console is the official name, so I suggest putting the system name in parentheses to be consistent with other disambiguation links throughout this wiki.

I've been banned on WiKirby, Sega Retro, MobyGames, and PCGamingWiki all because I was being mad for not stating things the way they're supposed to be called! I'm the worst user on the internet! Gorilli09 (talk) 16:25, 18 March 2026 (UTC)[]
- It's ok to disagree, just be sure that you don't insult people. Bring up any points you feel need to be reviewed and we can work together to figure out the best way forward. -- Prod (talk) 17:11, 18 March 2026 (UTC)[]
