Record and transcribe audio in Notes on iPad

In the Notes app, you can record audio and have the spoken words transcribed to text. You can search the transcript, add the text to the note, or copy the text to other documents.

Note: Audio transcription is available on supported iPad models when the device language is set to English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

Record live audio and see the transcript

You can record audio and have the spoken words transcribed in a note.

  1. Go to the Notes app ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    on your iPad.

  2. In a note, tap ๐Ÿ‘ the Attachments button
    ,
    then tap Record Audio.

  3. To start the recording, tap ๐Ÿ‘ the Record button
    .

  4. To take notes while recording, swipe down from the top of the screen.

  5. When youโ€™re done, tap ๐Ÿ‘ the Pause button
    .

  6. To see the transcript, tap ๐Ÿ‘ the Transcription button
    .

    Note: Spoken words in supported languages are automatically transcribed. If you donโ€™t see ๐Ÿ‘ the Transcription button

    your iPad either doesnโ€™t meet the minimum requirements or doesnโ€™t detect a supported language.

Play an audio recording and review the transcript

  1. Go to the Notes app ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    on your iPad.

  2. View a note with an audio recording.

  3. To play the audio recording, tap ๐Ÿ‘ the Play button
    .

  4. To review the transcript, tap the audio recording.

    Note: Spoken words in supported languages are automatically transcribed. If you donโ€™t see ๐Ÿ‘ the Transcription button

    your iPad doesnโ€™t meet the minimum requirements or detect a supported language.

  5. While viewing the transcript, you can do any of the following:
