Change or add a language

Google Assistant will speak to you in the language you have set in your iPhone or iPad settings. You can change or add a language to speak with your Assistant in the Google Assistant settings.

For example, if your phone is set to English (US) and you set the Google Assistant language to Spanish (US), you can speak to Google Assistant in English or Spanish.

You can use up to 3 languages with Google Assistant on your device: your iPhone or iPad language, plus 2 Assistant languages.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Assistant app πŸ‘ Assistant (iOS)
    .
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or first initial πŸ‘ and then
     Assistant πŸ‘ and then
     Languages.
  3. Choose a language.
    • To change the primary language, tap your current language.
    • To add another language, tap Add a language.

You can talk to the Google Assistant in either language, but not a mix of both.

Tips:

  • You can use Google Assistant with multiple accounts.
  • If you’re a first-time user without a default language, Assistant will communicate with you based on your device’s default language. If Assistant doesn’t support this language, long-pressing the power button to access Assistant may open Chrome instead.
Important: Some features aren't available in all languages, countries, or eligible Android devices.
