Add or remove someone in a space

Tips: If you use Chat with a Google Workspace account:

• You can add a Google Group to the space. Learn how to add a Google Group to a space.
• Your administrator can create a space that everyone in your organization can find. For example, your administrator can add a group named everyone@yourcompany.com to a space.
• By default, any member can remove another member without administrator approval or restrictions, unless the space settings explicitly restrict membership management.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chat app 👁 Image
   or Gmail app 👁 Image

   • In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat 👁 Image
     .
2. In the bottom navigation menu, tap Sections 👁 Image
   .
3. Open a space.
4. At the top left, tap the space name 👁 and then
   Manage members.
5. Under "Members," tap Add people 👁 Image
   .
6. Enter the name or email of the person or group you want to add.
7. At the top right, tap Done.

Tips:

• To quickly add a new person to a space, in the reply area, enter @ followed by the person’s name.
• To view people that you’ve invited to the space, tap Manage members 👁 and then
  Invited.

Learn how space invites work

Important: If you have the ability to manage members, you can remove members from a space. After you remove someone, they can't:

• Participate in the conversation.
• View that space’s message history.
• Access shared files in the space.

   • In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat 👁 Image

2. In the bottom navigation menu, tap Sections 👁 Image

3. Open a space.
4. At the top left, tap the space name 👁 and then
   Manage members.
5. To the right of the person or group name, tap More options 👁 Image
   👁 and then
   Remove from space.

Tip: If a person was added as part of a Google Group, remove them from the group first and then from the space.
