Collaborate with Gemini in Google Slides

With Gemini in Google Slides, you can:
  • Generate and edit new slides.
  • Generate images.
  • Use, implement, or reference the style of a current presentation.
  • Reference your Drive files or Gmail emails as you write or create a new slide.
  • Summarize a presentation.
  • Write or rewrite content.

Get started with Gemini in Slides

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  3. In the side panel, select a suggested prompt or write your own prompt.
    1. Select from the list of suggestions.
      • Tip: To get more options, select More suggestions.
    2. At the bottom, in the prompt box, replace the example text with the information that you want.
    3. Press Enter.

  4. Optional: To remove your history, click More options ๐Ÿ‘ More
    ๐Ÿ‘ and then
    Clear history.
    • Tip: To avoid losing your history, insert a suggestion into your presentation. You lose your conversation history when:
      • You refresh your browser.
      • You close and reopen the presentation.
      • Your computer goes offline.

Things to do with Gemini in Slides

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  3. On the side panel, you can:
    • Generate an image based on a selected slide: Enter โ€œGenerate an image" or "Suggest images for this slide.โ€
    • Select a suggested prompt: The Gemini in Slides side panel might suggest images based on the content on your slides.
    • Create your own prompt: For example, you can ask, โ€œGenerate an image of a dog with glasses.โ€
  4. Press Enter.
  5. To insert a specific image, hover over the image and click Insert ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .

You can create a new slide from scratch or reuse the visual style of an existing presentation with Gemini in Google Slides.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  3. In the prompt bar, enter a prompt that describes the slides you want to create.
  4. Optional:
  5. Once the preview displays:
    • To insert the generated slide as a new slide, beside โ€œReplace,โ€ click Down arrow ๐Ÿ‘ Down arrow
      ๐Ÿ‘ and then
      Insert.
    • To replace the selected slide with the generated slide, click Replace.

Tips:

  • You can only generate one slide at a time.
  • You can make edits to the generated slide.

When you open a presentation that has text, in the Gemini in Slides side panel, youโ€™ll find a summary of your presentation.

You can also use Gemini to generate text for your presentation.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. In the side panel, at the bottom, click Ask Gemini ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  3. Enter a prompt:
    • Examples:
      • โ€œSummarize this presentation in 3 sentences.โ€
      • โ€œCreate a slide that celebrates a colleague's work anniversary.โ€
  4. Press Enter.
  5. To add the suggested content to the presentation, click Insert ๐Ÿ‘ Image

You can use Gemini to reference files from your Drive to generate responses in Slides.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. In the side panel, at the bottom, click Ask Gemini ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  3. To reference a Drive file, enter a prompt with the file name:
    • Example: โ€œCreate a slide outlining the next steps from @meeting notes and @core team sync.โ€
  4. To check which files were used, at the bottom of the response, click Sources.
  5. You can also:
  • โ€œHow do I start a Q&A while presenting?โ€
  • โ€œWhat is the best way to share these slides with more than 100 people?โ€

Important: To get answers from the web, make sure to include phrases like โ€œUse Google Searchโ€ or โ€œUsing web searchโ€ in your prompt.

  • โ€œWrite a paragraph describing the weather today in Mountain View, California using web search.โ€
  • โ€œHelp me write a paragraph explaining if lightning can strike the same place twice using only information from the web.โ€
  1. On your computer, at the top right, click Ask Gemini ๐Ÿ‘ Image

  2. On the right, in the side panel, click Gems.
  3. Click the Gem you want to use.
  4. Select a custom or premade Gem.
    • To start a conversation with the Gem, type a question or prompt at the bottom.
Tip: To create a Gem, go to gemini.google.com. You can then use your Gem in the Gemini app and Gemini side panel. Learn how to use Gems in Gemini Apps.

You can directly edit or improve a current slideโ€™s design or content with a prompt in Google Slides.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  3. In the prompt bar, describe the changes that you want. For example:
    • โ€œSimplify this slide with less text and add an image.โ€
    • โ€œConvert to two columns.โ€
  4. Once the preview of the updated slide displays:

Give feedback on generated output

Google Workspace with Gemini is constantly learning and may not be able to support your request. Because feedback may be human readable, please do not submit data that contains personal, confidential, or sensitive information.

If you get a suggestion thatโ€™s inaccurate or that you feel is unsafe, you can submit feedback. Your feedback can help improve AI-assisted Workspace features and broader Google efforts in AI.

  1. At the bottom right of the generated text, click Good suggestion ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    or Bad suggestion ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  2. In the pop-up window, you can select the data you want to share along with your feedback, including prompts, additional context, and outputs. If you donโ€™t want to share certain data, you can uncheck it.
    • If you select Bad suggestion ๐Ÿ‘ Image
      , to select the issue you found and enter additional feedback, click Next.
  3. Click Submit.

To provide general feedback on this feature, at the top, go to Help ๐Ÿ‘ and then
Help Slides improve.

To report a legal issue, create a request.

Turn off the Gemini in Slides side panel

To turn off any of the features on Google Workspace Experiments, you must exit Workspace Experiments. If you exit, youโ€™ll permanently lose access to all Workspace Experiments features, and you wonโ€™t be able to rejoin Workspace Experiments. Learn more about how to exit Workspace Experiments.

  • Generated images are for use only within Google Slides.
  • Workspace Experiments generated images are designed to bring your imagination to life in Google Slides, and may not represent real world situations.

How Workspace Experiments data in Google Slides is collected

When you use the Gemini in Slides side panel, Google uses and stores the following data:

  • Prompts you enter or select.
  • Generated text and images.
  • Google Workspace content that you have access to that is referenced to generate content (both Google-selected input and user-provided input).
  • Your feedback on the Gemini in Slides side panel.
