Use a Template or change the theme, background, or layout in Google Slides
You can customize how your presentation looks in Google Slides. Start your presentation from a template or change the theme, background, or layout.
- Theme: A preset group of colors, fonts, background, and layouts.
- Background: The picture or color behind your slide's content.
- Layout: The way your text and images are arranged on a slide.
- Template: A pre-designed collection of slides with a combination of:
- Themes
- Layouts
- Backgrounds
- Fonts
- Color schemes
- Sample or placeholder content
Change theme
A theme is a preset group of colors, fonts, backgrounds, and layouts.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open a presentation in Google Slides app 👁 Image
. - At the top right, tap More 👁 More
👁 and then
Change theme. - Tap the theme you want.
Change layout
A layout is the way you arrange text and images on a slide.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open a presentation in Google Slides app 👁 Image
. - Touch and hold the slide you want to change.
- At the top right, tap More 👁 More
👁 and then
Change layout. - Tap the layout you want to use.
Change background image
A background is the picture or color behind your slide's content.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open a presentation in Google Slides app 👁 Image
. - At the bottom, touch and hold the slide you want to change.
- At the top right, tap More 👁 More
👁 and then
Change background. - Tap the background you want to use.
- To add the background to the whole presentation, tap Apply to theme.
Create Slides from Template
A background is the picture or color behind your slide's content.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Google Slides app 👁 Image
. - At the bottom, tap the Add button 👁 New
. - Select Choose template 👁 Image

select a template.
