Search & retrieve your files in Drive with Gemini

Instead of a traditional search and manual review of the results in Drive, ask Gemini to find specific info or files. Because Gemini understands natural language, you can search with everyday phrases instead of exact file names or keywords.

Get answers directly in search
- Open the Google Drive app 👁 Drive
- At the top right, tap Ask Gemini 👁 Image
. - Enter a prompt like:
“Show me all presentations about the Q4 marketing campaign”
If your account is aGoogle AI Ultra or Google AI Pro personal account, or if you are part of Workspace Experiments or the Alpha trusted tester program, you can ask questions about your content and receive an AI Overview summarizing the answer.
- Your AI Overview will automatically pin to the top of your mobile search results.
- From there, you can tap the citations to view the referenced files, or tap Ask Gemini to jump directly into the immersive chat workspace.
Control your AI Overviews scope
You can choose which Google Workspace apps Gemini uses to find files and generate AI Overviews.
- Open the Google Drive app 👁 Drive
. - In the search bar at the top, click AI Overview search 👁 Image
. - Check or uncheck the boxes to include or exclude sources:
- Drive files
- Gmail attachments & links
- Chat uploads & links
- Calendar attachments & links
Tip: These settings only apply to Gemini AI Overviews and natural language file finding. They do not affect your standard Drive search results.
