Troubleshoot Google Fi's international service

If you travel abroad and can’t use Google Fi service, try the steps below to fix the issue. After each step, check your phone to know if the issue is fixed.

If you don't have a phone designed for Google Fi, some international features might not be available. For more information, check our list of compatible phones.

To check if your international data is suspended, check your Google Fi app homepage. For activation, extent of use, suspension exit, and exceptions, review Google Fi’s international roaming policy.

Exception for US military and State Department employees: If you’re a member of the US military or a State Department employee stationed abroad, you can use Google Fi service internationally after you verify your status.

Once you’re verified, your international service activates. You may need to restart your phone. Learn more about Google Fi supported countries and territories.

If you're outside of the supported destinations:

  • You can't use your phone for cellular calls, text, or data.

Call other countries or regions from the US

To call an international number from the US:

  • Canada and US Virgin Islands: Dial 1 (area code) (local number).
  • To all other countries or regions: Touch and hold 0 until you find 👁 Image
    on the display, then dial (country or region code) (area code) (local number). For example, to call the UK, dial + 44 (area code) (local number).

Make calls while outside the US

To call international numbers or the US while outside the US:

  • To call a number in the country or region you’re visiting: Dial (area code) (local number).
  • To call another country or region: Touch and hold 0 until you find 👁 Image
    on the display, then dial (country or region code) (area code) (local number). For example, to call the UK from Japan, dial + 44 (area code) (local number).
    • If this number format doesn’t work, use the exit code of the country or region you visit. Dial (exit code) (destination country or region code) (area code) (local number).

For Pixel:

  1. On your phone, open the Settings app 👁 Settings
    .
  2. Tap Network & Internet 👁 and then
    SIMs.
  3. Turn on Mobile data.

For Android:

  1. On your phone, open the Settings app 👁 Settings
    .
  2. Tap Network & Internet 👁 and then
    Internet.
  3. Next to your carrier, tap Settings.
  4. Turn on Mobile data.
  1. On your phone, open the Settings app 👁 Settings
    .
  2. To check what roaming settings are visible, search within settings.
  3. Make sure data roaming is on.

Tips:

  • To check data roaming, you might have to tap Network & Internet 👁 and then
    SIMs.
  • If you can’t find data roaming, skip this step.
  1. On your phone, open the Google Fi website or app 👁 Image
    .
  2. In the “Home” tab, select Manage plan.
  3. Under “International features,” turn on Service outside the US and Calls to non-US numbers.

To reset some settings and fix your connection, turn Airplane mode on 👁 and then
off.

  1. On your phone, open the Settings app 👁 Settings
    .
  2. Tap Network & Internet.
  3. Turn on Airplane mode.
  4. Turn off Airplane mode.
Tip: When you’re done, make sure Airplane mode is off, and wait 2–3 minutes before you test again. You can’t make calls if it's on.

A restart can help resolve connection issues. To restart your phone:

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the menu pops up.
  2. To turn off your phone, tap Power off.
  3. Press and hold the Power button until your device starts.

Important: After you leave the area, turn on Automatically select a network.

Try this step only if automatic network selection is on and your data issue continues:

  1. Dial: *#*#FIROAM#*#* or *#*#347626#*#*.
  2. Turn off Automatically select a network.

Or

  1. On your phone, open the Settings app 👁 Settings
    .
  2. Tap Network & Internet 👁 and then
    Google Fi under SIMs.
  3. Turn off Automatically select a network.

For Samsung:

  1. On your phone, open the Settings app 👁 Settings
    .
  2. Tap Connections 👁 and then
    Mobile Networks 👁 and then
    Network Operators.
  3. Turn off Automatically select a network.

Wait up to 2 minutes for available networks to appear. Try each one until you connect. Once you're connected, you don’t need to manually select another network in the country.

Tip: If a network says “Forbidden,” try to connect anyway. If it works, the label is removed.

Important: This action can fix persistent connection issues, but deletes your saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN configurations.

To reset your network settings:

  1. On your Android device, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap System or General Management 👁 and then
    Reset network settings.

If you still can’t connect, especially after you switch devices or reinstall the app, try to fully reset your Google Fi app and eSIM.

  1. On your Android device, open the Settings app.
  2. To clear data and cache, tap Google Fi 👁 and then
    Storage & cache 👁 and then
    Clear storage.
  3. In your network or cellular settings, remove any current Google Fi eSIM profiles.
  4. Uninstall the Google Fi app.
  5. Restart your device.
  6. To reactivate your service, reinstall the Google Fi app.
    • You need a Wi-Fi connection for this.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  8. Reset your phone's network settings.

If your service still doesn’t work after you try all the steps above, contact Google Fi support.
